Hey, am I the only one to feel that the micro-badge are slowing a lot the page rendering?

For me it kinds of get in the way of my forum scrolling...

it will only be like that if your computer doesn't allow cookies. If it does it will only be like that for a coup;e of times.

Though I have to agree if someone with dial-up comes along it would not be the most friendly site around.

If you're doing the phone modem thing I can see some rendering slow down but even then, once the main badge images have been cached by your browser, this should not slow down page render time. Once those images are stored in memory things shouldn't slow down.

Although I must say, WorldWorks has never been very kind to the phone modem crowd.

Could it be a computer issue? Too little RAM or a really old machine?

Yep, I've got some guys who stop by and tell me they could get rid of the fox squirrels ... 'meaty', they say. I tell them they are welcome to pick some pecans, but they are not going to pick-off my squirrels. A logger head turtle (big) came on the property and inside of 15 minutes there was a small crowd bidding on it for soup.

They ain't that meaty!! I would never kill a turtle. Although I did once yell real bad at an ocean Loggerhead, who kept screwing around in our chum line! (was worried that when we hooked into the Muttons, he would cut the line if it brushed against him. Stubborn beast, he wouldn't listen!

Actually, its a bit too flashy for me and I am going to remove my list. I showed the colors and now feel its time to put them away.

That's completely cool. This is by no means a compulsory thing and I don't expect everyone to do it. I may even retreat the graphics further (at some later point) to give them an even more subdued look and impact.

Wow...I own a lot of sets. Pretty pitiful when you consider the only things I've built are most of SoM, BoM, MA, and some other odds and ends from other sets....and some kitbash files I made for myself.

MUST start Mayhem Industrial...and Mayhem PD....and Shellendrak. And that's just for games I've got coming up!

It's very strange, on IE the badge graphics seems to be cashed and the rendering is instant. But on Firefox, the badges apears one after the other, quite fast, but there is so much of it, that a typical page takes 5 to 10 second to be rendered. I have checked my preference on Firefox, I don't see any thing wrong. It's properly configured to accept cookies and all...

Anyone idea would be most welcome.

I have been using telephone dial up for a month, with no loss in quality or slowness (Although Shadowcore took like 12 hours to download ) The Badges pop up immediately. When our IT guy comes next week, I'm back to high speed, so maybe I'll notice the difference.

You can't get much faster than "immediate", unless you get into warping reality and time itself... hmm...

I usually do go for the literal tranlation though... people often get upset when I call them out for what they said, even though it's not what they meant.

It's funny, but being in America, and speaking English (not American English) there are many things that have different meanings, and so I have no choice but to take things literally and hope that the person speaking is doing so clearly. Two locals can speak to each other, and understand things other than the words, but a stranger has no chance of picking up on the extra bits. It's not even local slang, but shared experiences lead to ways of communicating that an outsider can't understand.

I'm not explaining this well... and seem to be getting a bit off topic.

Anyway, sorry if you were offended by my comment.

Since my daughter's a rollercoaster maniac, I take her to Universal and Busch Gardens a lot, and their are more English/Scotts here than Americans (they all say its cheaper to live at Disney or Universal than London). At RECON in Orlando, My daughter befreinded a girl from Scotland, we had dinner with her parents, and I couldn't understand one word of his Edinburough accent, nor could he decipher my Southern/Midwest/NY accent that is "Florida". At one point, I was asking him about the Culloden Battlefield, and he went on and on, and seemd to REALLY love the battle, which I wouldn't think was one of the fonder Scottish bits of history. He's gesticulating about troop movements, making "cavalry movements" with his hand, showing how the Brits swept the field, dashing up and over the hills, etc. I was actually a bit shocked, as the guy was 100% Scottish! After a half hour, his wife couldn't take it any more and stopped us to break the news: I was talking about Culloden, HE was talking about "The Hulk" roller Coaster at Universal!

Never, not in Mexico, Myanmar, Zululand, have I ever had as hard a time conversing with people as I did when I met all those Scots. And I can understand one out of ten words Selma Hyack says, so its not ALL me Then again, they couldn't understand me either?


Funny that my daughter's new friend came to watch her run the zombies at the big zombie game at the con. The look on her face was priceless (She was evidently not familiar with miniature zombie gaming).

Heh, I know all about difficulties understanding accents. Some places I go, I have no problem... and even get superb extra service when in the south (I love Waffle House). However, I have many stories of people just not getting it. I go to extremes to simplify my accent to make it softer and easier to understand, and speak more slowly... but someone people just won't understand me no matter what.

There are at least as many accents throughout the UK as in the US, IMO. Just London alone has a massive variety.

One of the closed caption ads on BBC America always cracks me up. It says something like "Even Brits have trouble understanding all the British accents, so if you find yourself laughing at the accent more than the understanding, turn on Closed Captioning". If only that option was available in person

When my friend Charlie came to visit from Manchester (I live in Georgia), I asked him if he got the typical, "You ain't from 'round here, are ya?"

He said that the first thing he learned while travelling by bus through the South was, "Do NOT ask to bum a fag."

LOL! No, thats illegal in Georgia, if I remember my Constitutional Law classes. Say, that, and you might get the old "Howdy Stranger!" thats popular in some very rural Southern areas

When a friend of mine was traveling through Alabama on his motorcycle he stopped a t a bar, where in fact someone did come up to him and say 'you ain't from 'round here, are you?'
'Ummm, no, we're from Maine.'
'You wanna fight?'
'Ummm, no?'

Whereupon the man went to another table and asked the same question about wanting a fight to one of the locals. It took a while for my friend to realize that the guy was being polite - he wanted a fight, and wanted to know if my friend wanted one too.... Very strange.

The Auld Grump

It bothers me a great deal to ask a person to repeat themself, so when first arriving in the South (D-e-e-p South) I felt terribly embarassed by having to do that. Now after so many years here I can hardly believe what comes out of my mouth at times. I love these people; they are the salt of the earth 'at heart'. When I put my feet on this land I honestly felt I had come back to a place I had called home before in some other time.

I have a question Denny, was the length alotment of the signature box extended for this addition, or is it just because it's a different type of link? I seem to remember we had issues inserting the second image pic for the link to the Users gallery in my sig. If you still have this link img available could you resend it my way so I can add it in, if there's room now I might as well .

I think it's very cool of all those who stepped up to make this possible, thanx all, great example of how this community works together for something we all like .

I, for one, really like the new option because it makes it easy, at a glance, to see what someone you're talking to actually has.

Makes giving suggestions, providing advice, and discussing possible options and designs ever so much easier than to write out a long "well, you could use this here and that there" only to get back "well, I only have...".
