All I have to say is WOW.


I mean it. I'd previously purchased Castle, Dungeon and Arena Works (AW was easily my favorite before today), but GR blows them away, in my opinion. I just told my wife I'm buying one a month until I've got them all.

Keep 'em rolling, guys. Great work.

Denny and Co.'s work has just kept getting better, release after release.  I'm consistantly blown away by how incredible of a job they do, and how much the game worlds come to life with his products.  

Let us know what the rest of your gaming crew thinks...and pictures if you can...definately pictures.

So, if you were to choose just one dungeon set, should it be gothic, or should it be Chunky? (of course in a perfect world it would be both. But then I'd be rich and that wouldn't be a problem.)

That’s an easy one If you are into MageKnight then go with Chunky Dungeons. If you are a die-hard D&D player go with Gothic Realms. They both offer different elements but overall they each include the essentials.

DungeonWorks Classic had its day in the sun and while many of the props are still relevant I’m not happy with the old style wall and corridor system. Stick with Chunky Dungeons & Gothic Realms. Add DungeonWorks Classic if you are looking for additional props.

I definitely prefer the term Geek, as well. Nerds are guys with big ole coke bottle glasses, pocket protectors and bad shirts. Geeks um, figured out how to wear contacts and use calculators. Actually, in my world, geek is a term of endearment and accomplishment (computer geek, guitar geek, etc), and nerd is more pejorative term.

I bought DungeonWorks first, and I have to say that Gothic is much better. The props in DW are pretty cool - I'm a big fan of  the bookshelves and tortune room. But Gothic's overall feel and look is far superior. I don't know about Chunky, its on my list, but I think Castles & Keeps is next (to go with the Gothic feel).

When I get more done (I'm going to have a short run printer friend of mine print out most of Gothic and CastleWorks and some of Arena), I'll get some pictures out. I did spend a great deal of time last night putting together a sewer system (Mystic Green) for our upcoming session. My wife (also one of my PCs) said, "Oh no, not sewers" - the hoped for reaction.

Actually Denny, I bought Chunky to use for D&D and other fantasy RP's.  The bigger squares make the combats easier to look at for everyone around the table.  I did the Pro Masterboard at about 3' x 3' and it kicks.  I'll be playing a game using it this Saturday and will have my digital camera on hand.  ;)

That's awesome Count. Don't the new D&D 3.5 rules require a 1-inch grid? That’s the only reason I didn’t suggest it for D&D specifically.

The 3.5 rules say 1" but it doesn't change anything.  A square is 5' in d20 regardless if its 1" or 1.5".  I was playing with the pieces the other night and having the extra space made the "combat" a lot easier on the eyes.  I could sit back in a chair and count squares and see who was where.  I know you don't want to adverstise it as such, but the modularity alone makes it better for RPing.  Dungeon crawls in particular as I can lay out the Chunky pieces very quickly.  
I'll still use 1" for outdoor locales cause they tend to be larger.  

Ah, just created a Mystic Green T-Insersection, and its looks pretty fair. (Sewer intersections were the only thing I really thought were really missing from GR, and I might try a crossroad piece next). If you have a mind to try it, don't use screen captures, you'll lose a lot of the resolution. Make sure to export the image out instead.

Yes/no - 3.5 specifies a 1 inch grid, but because you are using a grid the actual size does not matter, except in regards to base sizes - medium sized figures using a 1 inch base, large using 2 inches, huge using 3 inch, etc. If you change all the base sizes to 1.5, 3, 4.5 etc. it will work fine.

Since I use a ruler instead of a grid it dosn't work quite as well for me.
