Hail Adventurers! We are actively seeking 10 (possibly more) qualified testers for our second closed beta-test, "LinX Adventures". However, before you commit to join us on this quest, listen to the wisdom of the sages...the path before you may hold perils you do not expect.

THE STATE OF THE GAME

As noted this is a beta-test and as such many art resources and absolute mechanics values are either outright mockups, incomplete or undergoing constant tweaks. In plain terms you won’t be receiving those shinny, market ready standees, cards and other game resources in the first iteration of the Beta test as they are still in production. Nor will you receive the final art ready version of the rule set and or play counters and stat cards. What you will receive is the placeholder art and counters (meaning rudimentary pieces nothing like what you’ll see in the final version. Only functioning for mechanics sake), stripped down rule set without final layout resources designed specifically for testing purposes only.

Many of these resources will not make it into the final version of the product until later in the Beta phase. If you’re an eyecandy hound you might want to take a pass on testing at this early phase, and likewise if you're shy about building stuff that you'll likely be pitching when the newer versions come out, this may well not be for you.

EXPERIENCED GAMERS WANTED

While we do want a nice cross-section of gamers it would be beneficial to have experienced tabletop gamers onboard for testing. That’s not to say we won’t take application from novice players but the testing phase can require a lot of patience on your part and we need active feedback throughout that process. If you have experience beta-testing other products and you don’t mind playing with unstable rules then you have a better chance at earning an early seat testing LinX Adventures.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS: WHAT’S EXPECTED FROM TESTERS

• Due to the nature of the game, we are accept only beta testers who own a copy of DungeonLinX: Lair of the Dragon God.
• Most importantly we expect you to invest some of your precious time helping us work out the bugs in the system.
• Testers will be required to print out and construct many standees, cards, and other placeholder objects. These are relatively easy to construct but the process will initially be a bit time consuming. While the final market ready product will unfold organically giving users ample time to build all the necessary elements, in beta-testing you will be building a lump sum of items in a relatively short time period. This is important to note if you don’t have the patience for that type of thing. Constructing all the necessary elements for testing is compulsory.
• The ability to communicate clearly in written and or verbal format. Testers will be required to participate in internal development forum. Bonus points are added for the ability to join online voice-chat sessions via Teamspeak. You will be given access to a special hidden development forum for LinX Adventures where you and other testers will help us flesh out aspects of the final system. This area will expand topically based on various aspects of gameplay.
• Preferably you will have a friend or two in your area to help you build and test the game although it is perfectly fine to play solo for testing purposes. While you can have others join you in testing, all materials must remain in your hands alone...nobody else can take home a copy of the rules (electronic or print) or the test materials.
• Primarily we would ask that you have no less than 4 full games of LinX Adventures during the course of testing. Ideally we are looking for players who can stand a bit of repetition and test beyond the 4 game minimum and or specific aspects of combat, movement and game scenarios. We'll have situational tests that aren't nearly as satisfying as a full game, but put the rules through mechanical soundness tests. These, too, are crucial to complete in a timely manner.
• Initially we will be looking for a basic impression of the game structure/system but we will fan out from there as development/testing continues. Questions and or troubleshooting will be the core focus of much of the testing in an effort to create a rule set that offers the best stability and flexibility.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT?

All testers will receive a full and complete copy of the game itself, upon completion, and an open invitation (for satisfactory particpation) to continue to serve as a betatester for all future releases within the LinX Adventures line.

You of course will be given full in-game credit for your participation, and a chance to be a part of the next big adventure to hit the market. Who knows? Three years from now, you could be at a convention bragging about how you were there when LXA was created, and pointing to your name on the credits!

WHO? WHEN? HOW?

• While other WorldWorks insiders will be dropping in from time to time, the game will principally be developed by me (Andorax), with artwork by the ever-famous Alberto!
• Beta-testing could begin as early as the middle of July
• Give us a brief description of your gaming/testing experience right here on this thread (SINGLE POST ONLY AND NO E-MAILS PLEASE!). You must also confirm that you already have DungeonLinX: Lair of the Dragon God. A quick word about why you want to be involved with Linx Adventures testing would also be appreciated although it’s not compulsory.

We will then look over the submissions and choose our primary test group. If you are chosen we will contact you via private messaging on this forum (watch those IM’s for messages). You will then be required to fill out a legally binding Non Disclosure Agreement before participating. Finally, special forum access will be granted and testing will begin. If needed, we may come back to previous applicants, so if you're not picked in the first round, there's still the possability we'll need you later on.

Well, first off I do own DungeonLinx.

I've done playtesting for several games in the past including Deadlands:Reloaded and Warhammer FRP 2nd edition. I also had a stint as a game tester for Activision while living in Los Angeles. I'm an avid RPer and boardgamer with 25 years of experience behind me. The rest of my gaming group has about the same experience and would enjoy helping me out as well.

I really enjoy the testing process and enjoy seeing a product come to fruition. Not to mention I dig dungeon board games.

This sounds like an interesting game and reminiscent of Heroquest (I own), Advanced Heroquest (I own), Warhammer Quest, etc.

I do not yet own Lair of the Dragon God, BUT if I would be willing to buy it for the purpose of testing the game. With CCotD on board, we could test multiple players easily. If it were just me, I could test solo rules or 2 players, and I could test is with multiple players all played by me. It sounds weird, but I have lots of experience doing this, and although you can't plan your strategy ahead (since you will see though your plans) you can play it well with no idea of who will win at the end of the day.

I have beta tested numerous online role playing games, and provided regular feedback to those. While testing Neocron, I had a message from the CEO to thank me for my useful feedback, which was nice.

Experience... years of playing board games and computer games (ever since I can remember), lots of miniatures gaming in the last 4 years or so, and a bit of roleplaying scattered throughout. My favourite games are ones like Heroquest, so your new game, at first glance, looks to be right up my alley.

"I have DungeonLinx" - but then you knew that as I was hassling ya for the Stairs bashes (cheers LOL), and I used the stuff in the recent "Innana's Kiss" demo event.


I'd be willing to help out, I already have a ton of the stuff already printed and mounted, ready to go.

I think the current Wormhole tasks are concluding soon (are we getting 1_10 soon?), so this can lead on from there. The next Wormhole task can be done alongside DLinx since my workload over the next couple of months should be less *YAY*

If you need to know about my experience and the like regarding testing etc, I posted it all in the Wormhole application thread before. Want me to go and copy it??

Just as a heads-up for those interested in doing this testing; Bob, Denny and the guys really make the testing tasks very interesting and are very quick to reply to questions and comments. They are also very good at listening to opinions, comments, problems and the like which will definitely arise when testing these things. Overall one of the best playtesting groups I've been involved with.

Funny...I was just thinking 'i wonder if WWG is going to do more Dungeonlinx?" and then I came to the forum and found this thread!

I am a huge D-linx fan, and I'm getting the itch to participate in game design again.

And I think that this is a good move...if it's something quick and fun (half board-half rpg) then it's in the good direction...
I've a group who play from time to time...only need an excuse to join them...The only real problem is the Speaking thing (diferent hour zone - Spain) and the writting skill (can you read what I've put)... But it's worth a try... but I won't try too hard to sell myself to you

Experience... Well 20 years playing from RPG's to Miniatures games ...

Sign me up please. I already have Dungeon Linx so there is no worry there. I've been a gamer for well over 20 years though admittedly I am not very active these days. In the past I've played Space Hulk, Talisman, Heroquest in addition to numerous designer board games and the occasional RPG.

I have also done quite a few bits of Testing on MMORPG games, but I don't know if this will help to get me in.

In my day job, I write numerous test plans for the computer programs that I author in addition to creating code documentation. I think that these skills will translate quite nicely.

OK. DungeonLinx has been purchased. So I now meet the minimal requirements for playtesting.

As stated above, I have played almost every variant of dungeon board game that has been made...Descent, Dungeon Twister, Warhammer Quest, Dungeonquest, Heroquest (lots of quests there...), Temple of the Beastmen, and Dungeon.

I have been in various beta programs, for online games (City of Heroes, Lord of the Rings Online, Asheron's Call II, Ultima Online) as well as beta testing for many professional software products. In addition, I did a lot of playtest work for GDW back in the day...Space:1889, Dangerous Journeys, MegaTraveller, and other boardgames. Also some work for Mayfair Games as well, on some of their (albiet failed) card and board games.

More LinX is good, very good, especially with a tabletop game

I can't commit the time for beta testing, but will definitely pick this up in final form to play with my son (the official owner of our ever expanding collection of DungeonLinX tiles and props).

All the best with testing (fingers crossed it gets through faster and more easily than Wormhole has).

I've been thinking about getting D-linx anyways so if selected i will purchase it!

oh and as for experience, if a noob can't pick up your game easily then it's no good, and as for beta testing experience, I have beta tested with EA in Vancouver many times now and feel I could definitely help as much as a beta tester could.

So, to conclude,, not much board gaming, (not that I don't like them just that they are expensive), but I have done beta testing with EA.
