How do I purchase multiple copies of a set.

Is it as simple as making two individual orders for the same product or will that throw a spanner in the system?

I'd rather know before I get bogged down inside Paypal.

The reason I'm asking is that when Wormhole comes out I'd like to buy a set for my brother as it looks like something that would be right up his street.

I'm assuming that if I've bought two legitimate copies of the same file I can burn one to CD and let him have it.

That sounds simple enough. I just need to wait for Wormhole to be released now, Hint Hint!

Yep. Gift Certificates. Should be really easy to implement, and would completely alleviate this problem.

Not to mention bring new people to the site.

Of course, Denny already knows about the interest in gift certificates (apparently the problem is the current store software doesn't support them) - no doubt it is on his (long) list of things to tackle.

The main problem with gift certificates hangs in how we share profit here. Each product has certain percentage ratios earned by the designers and WWG. Because of these percentage splits/shares gift certificates don't really work. Say someone buys a $16.99 gift certificate, WWG gets that money but then later on a user applies the certificate to a modelset. At that point in our accounting we have to pay the designer their percentage and take our percentage but the store doesn't differentiate the use of a certificate vs real money (we have no way to track that aspect of things).

It's a bit more complicated and confusing than that (and I'm doing a poop job of explaining it). So, yes it's a wishlist item for the moment until we can figure a way around it in accounting. One option might be to create designer specific gift cards. Mattbucks, Paulbucks, Dennybucks that can be applied only to those designers sets.

Couldn't you set the gift voucher up as a faux designer, and when it's spent the checkout sends a portion of the faux designers account to the designer(s) of the set actually purchased.

I wouldn't like to see seperate gift vouchers for different designers as it confuses newcomers (the primary point of gift vouchers) and fragments your united image.

I don't think individual desginer gift cards are a way to go either. I agree it will be pretty confussing for new comers. And I think that sort of limitation on which sets they could chose would likely anger or annoy a lot of people. Its not as though most designers even stick to a specific genre.

Until some sort of behind the scenes solution is reached I think your better off with the current system. If you want to give someone else a set, for now just buy it and burn it to disc for them, or give them a visa gift card and the web address.

Yeah sorry guys, there's no easy fix on that one until we can do some fairly major backend changes. We are picking away at things to streamline but it's a massive job and everyone's time is tight.
