My suggestion... Check and start browsing user reviews. They have cameras diveded by price and functionality, and so far I've never gone wrong with an item that had a decent editors and above average user reviews there. |

It would depend on what your looking for. Do you want the best camera you can find that costs under $200? Or an alright camera thats closer to $100? I use an HP photosmart M517. Its 5.2 megapixel, came with a portable printer, and cost under $150 a year ago, maybe 2 years ago. I don't claim its a fantastic camera but since I use it mainly for my models, it doesn't have to be fantastic. Because all the pics I submit are low resolution to min. the file size. Now you can get a 7 megapixel camera for arround $130 and an 8 for arround $180. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I use to have a Canon 35mm, so after looking through cnet, I sort of narrowed down my search . What I want to use it for: Photographing miniatures and terrain Some outdoor photography... typical stuff |

The Canon PowerShots have a good rep. It's 18 months since I bought a new camera, but the review sites I found most helpful were: and - Good luck with your hunt. |

My Canon A75 is only now starting to die...after over 11,000 pics shot and a dunking. I'd buy another one in a a minute. |

I so want to pick up a Canon Digital Rebel. Course they're out of the price range you're looking at, but I've been very impressed with Canon products, so you might want to concentrate on that product line. I'd probably own the highend Rebel by now if it weren't for the money I've been having to spend on my Harley. Ah well, there's always tax time, and that's only a few months away! Steps in purchasing a digital camera - Step 1 - decide you want a digital camera Step 2 - try out the cheapest you can find Step 3 - be disappointed with the results Step 4 - put off the purchase Step 5 - try a better camera, like it, but not enough to bust $100 on it. Step 6 - help a friend with her digital camera and really like it! Step 7 - discover that she spent more than you pay on two months rent for her camera Step 8 - try other cameras, facing inevitable disappointment. Step 9 - put off the purchase another year.... This is the method I have been using... the only camera that filled me with joy belongs to a friend, and she spent $1,200 on a really good Canon SLR. It felt solid. It was weird showing someone how to use a camera when I don't even own one myself. ![]() ![]() The Auld Grump |

Well, I ended up getting the yesterday for Christmas. I haven't had much chance to fiddle with it, but I love how it feels in my (rather big) hands and just using the auto focus and snapping shots of friends, family and pets, it takes an excellent photo. This next weekend I'm going to take some (more) shots of my Maiden build, my city board for kaiju games and my Savage Wheels (car wars/road warrior) race track I have been working on (we uses Savage Worlds rules for the game play). Anyhow, hope everyone had a great holiday! I did ![]() Sniz |
