Since SiegeWorks already is in the instruction phase, maby it's time for some pictures?? ![]() PLEASE let it be time for some pictures -falling on my knees begging- I'm really looking forward to this set as a non-rpg miniature gamer: I'm hoping to use this set to siege Minas Tirith with my foul orcs (so hope you'll also have included a bit off evil siege equipment ![]() Kobarf |

Except that I think the "bit bigger" comment referred to the largest D&D catapult, which is 15'x15', which would make a 3 inch model. So maybe the SiegeWorks catapults will be 4 inch to a side? Just guessing here... We're usually using the 5' ballistas or 10' catapults in our campaign, so downscaling the SiegeWorks ones may not be feasible. Ever tried to put together a 1 square inch model, scaled down from a quite intricate 4 inch model? It is possible to design a model for that sort of scale, but it needs to be drastically simplified. Of course I assume that the tower ramp ALSO matches up to the Castleworks Ultimate wall height too...... |

That's what he's saying! Apparently both the catapult and the trebuchet are fully functional, check the stats mentioned somewhere further up IIRC - they can both fling 'boulders' several feet ![]() |

Ok, I give in. I will produce non-working but DMG correct engines: 1" Ballista 2" Catapult The 3" catapult is close enough to what I built. Anyone have a size for a Trebuchet? |

WOOHOO! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Paul! See, that's one of the things that makes WWG so great... you actually *do* listen to your customers! ![]() The trebuchet is (AFAIK) not in the D&D core rules, but I'm sure there's be one in some supplement (Arms & Equipment Guide would be my bet). Wouldn't make that one my top priority though... One thing to keep in mind with the D&D siege engines is that they're supposed to have a square base. Your catapult looks like 3" by 5 or 6", but I bet one could easily kitbash it down to a more square base by leaving out the little platform at the rear of the A-frame. PS: I would still love to see the pictures of the historical ram and tower with a roller that you based your models on! That's another way you could appease the "But it's not realistic!" crowd... PPS: I'm curious to see how you're going to tackle the 1" ballista in cardboard (without just resorting to a 2D figure, of course)! PPS: I just thought of a way to make a functional model ballista using toothpicks for the arms and a rubber band for torsion spring... but you probably don't want to get sued by a mother whose 9 year old son just got a toothpick shot into his eye with a miniature ballista ![]() |

Ok, I have the "fake" catapult down to 2" and I will lose the rear platform. which is for the trigger on the "full-size" version. BTW I could not come up with an elegant solution for the trebuchet trigger, so there is none, "Manual Only". I'll also include a non-operating Trebuchet the same size as the operating one, basically a box. It's 3x3x3, a pretty big treb, but did you see that British guy who had one he was using to fling CARS and FLAMING PIANOS. THAT'S A DARN BIG TREB. I am experimenting with various other model engines, I had one more built that has poor performance. As I have time I hope to improve this.... The whole idea of operating models has barely been touched. Stay tuned... |
