Post subject: | Alternative Figure Basing with WW Products |
I had a vision last night. I have subsrcibed to a papermodels list, as well as some WW2 miniatures gaming lists, and find that there are materials out there to print out your own decals. While thinking of printing out some floor pieces for Pubs & Inns, why not use a sheet or 2 of this decal material, print the primary kind of material your figures will be seen on, the cut and apply this as your flocking? Imagine, the figures that will be seen primarily on the decks of the Maiden, or on wooden floors, having bases that match that material! I dont have the name of the product, but I'm sure others who look at paper products a lot will know what I am talking about and be able to help on that. For dungeon dwellers, why would you flock the base with grass and rocks when you can use dungeon flooring or cave floor. Print a sheet, cut out the circle just a bit bigger than the base you will apply it too. The materials are supposed to be waterproof after printing, so the ink shouldnt run. Take your cutout disk, figure out where the figures' feet should be, and cut two slits to slide the decal around their feet. The soak the decal until it slides off easily, apply and then use decal solvaset or similar to make it settle over the base. Let dry and trim up close to the figure and around the edge of the base. I'm going to have to give this a try, but figured others might know more about this than I and could get started right away. Tom Oxley |

Neat idea, Tom. The thought of being able to print to a decal-sheet material is kinda neat. All sorts of applications I can see for it. As for basing, why not just use peel-n-stick label sheets? A little thicker than decals, sure, but easier and probably cheaper. A few people have talked about using labels for their masterboards; I can't see why it wouldn't work for mini basing as well. D |

That sounds like a good idea, too. I could see that as a great option for slotta-base type things. I was thinking of all the troops I use that have relatively odd shape cast-in bases that I end up gluing to slotta-bases or to washers, so the odd lump of metal between and around their feet might be difficult to get stickers onto while the decal should shrink down around all that with the solvaset. I think both are excellent ideas, and I think I will try your idea first as I have some sticker stock on hand already. ![]() |
