If you wanted to try plastic sheets I would suggest styrene sheets that and make. Granted I think it would be a lot more expensive than using cardstock. -Audrey |

Nah ... I'm not looking to replace the cardstock. I love it the way it is. To my mind, for the for the cost and reproducibility of it, cardstock is extremely comparable to light plastics. (BTW: I have read through the forum threads regarding durability, etc ... ) I guess what I'm looking for is a more abstract approach to making the comparison between the cardstock and plastic, so that I can more scientifically state the case for cardstock gaming minis and stuff. Some people are interested in WH but dubious about it b/c of the cardstock aspect of it. There's never really been a mini-game of its magnitude exclusively using cardstock models (at least to my knowledge). So, I'm trying to get them into the game, but they're very picky about what counts as evidence (hence, the academic/scientific nature of my query). I guess I'm looking for a scientific (or engineering) journal article or some such thing regarding heavy papers vs. light plastics. I've already rooted around some sci-eng search engines, but man-oh-man are those things ever a bore to wade through. I just figured I'd take a stab in the dark that there were some engineers (or something) on the board that would be able to point me in the right direction. |

So just looking quantitatively, one key thing that isnt so scientific would be a man-hour study on how long it takes to build and paint plastic or resin vs how long it takes to print out and assemble a card stock model, followed by what happens when said finishe product is dropped on the floor from an average table height. I'm sure you can also find stuff online from military studies (they love this stuff, it seems) on how many inches of different types of material does it take to stop certain types of weapon rounds. I used to know the numbers, but it's been a while since I read about how much snow did it take to stop a .50cal round. I'd think you would find compressed card stock vs plastic in the lists somewhere. I know they have compressed wood on the list. Reason being that (theoretically) troops in the field would need to be able to use whatever is on hand to build fortifications. Dont think I ever actually heard of a situation where they had to build snow forts that could withstand HMG fire, but it was part of the training for the arctic at one point. Tom |

I'm sure my Hammerhead took much less than 4 hours to make, more like half that! I'll time the next one I build ![]() Steve |
