Not sure how popular this idea may be, but its been bouncing around the corners of my mind for a long while. Why not make a set with truly 3D walls. What I mean is if their is a pillar on the wall, make a pillar that sticks out through layering. So their would be a white piece on the wall that the textured pillar would be glued to. Would take a layer or two of cardstock to get real depth, but would be visually striking. They actually are doing something very similar with scenery sets for GWs LotR minis game. I hope this makes sense, if not, I will try and illustrate. Was just looking at the interiorworks sets and thinking how amazing they would look with a bit of physical depth.

Its an interesting idea. But I don't favor leaving a white spot on the wall. It would be just as easy to apply the layering over the column itself. But by having the column on the wall already its still usable by those who don't want to go the extra mile.

You are talking about pasting/gluing layers of printed textures upon top of each other to help lend the air of depth and realism to the model.


This is something that I asked Denny about back in the Radio Show days - His answer at the time was to try and keep it simple for the newbie.

To illustrate what we are talkinga bout:

Mayhem Hollywood flats are pure 2D images printed upon the sheet. What Kane is asking for is a second, third or forth layer to be brought into play - So the standard 2D building face as normal then adding Window frames building trim and maybe door frames. This will create shadows and have a level of depth that cannot be achieved by texturing alone.


I am all for this idea. The only other thing that might be stopping WWG from doing it is each object that has this process applied take X times longer for WWG to create. This may not be profitable for them unless they release a MasterClass line of single salable items that cost closer to a full set. I personally would buy Hollywood flats like this just to add the depth to the tabletop.


Not this moves away from solely gaming Terrain into the Cardstock Hobby realm.

Ab is right on with his assessment. Thats exactly what I'm talking about. I can totally see what LD is talking about in making things more accessible, but it does waste a lot of ink that way. I am thinking a master series would be the way to go. Its probably too much work to make a separate, enhanced version of a set, so this probably will go nowhere, but I suppose its easy enough to Photoshop.
