Tampa FL here - the Teflon city in FL. Charley dodged us at the 13th hour and we'll get naught but heavy rain from Frances. Just spent some time gathering and donating supplies to the victims of Charley.... ...guess we'll start getting stuff together for Frances' victims. On a purely selfish note, I was going to go to Universals Islands of Adventure saturday to celebrate my big 4-0 birthday on the 4th...maybe next week... |

Yeah, I'm in Gainesville. First thing that came to mind when the weatherpeople started nattering on about Frances was "Bend over, here it comes again!" -Mel |

Hi folks, Cocoa Florida here. It does not look too good from our angle. Within 28 hours, we should start feeling the first effects of the storm here. We expect to recieve a sustained wind of 135 - 145 MPH for about 8 hours. The barrier islands and beaches have been ordered to evacuate since yesterday. Anyone who stays out there will be crazy, as this storm should bring a storm surge (a wall of water) on shore that is about 15 to 20 feet high and wash inland. I',m about 12 miles inland. I guess I'll find something waterproof to put my models in ![]() I'll let you folks know what happened when power and internet connection is restored. (maybe a week or more). |

Just got power back after 2 days...! Way to hot and muggy to work on anything (Thank the Maker for Gameboy and rechargeable batteries!). The air is back but we still have tornado warnings and Ivan is on the way ![]() Now to empty the refridgerator and freezer of all the food that went bad.... |

We seem to have gotten out of it okay here in Gainesville. Lots of oak trees knocked down in our complex by a combination of poor planting, heavy rain, and a bit of encouragement from the wind. We didn't lose power or water, though...we're on the same utility circuit as the hospital and mall nearby. They've already started the cleanup, so I guess it's pretty much over. By the way, thanks for the good wishes, Hisst_Ka. I'm hoping everyone else here in Florida made it through safely. -Mel |
