It came in the mail today! I ordered from www.rpg.net last week, and at a good price too! The Darkstone Halls pack comes in a plastic bag, stapled with a cardstock hanging label on top. Break into the package, and you got 60 pages of models, 2 pieces with the front and back illustrations (to show you what's inside), and of course... the CD containing what's been available with the downloaded versions. The printed product is nice... very nice. The illustrations are sharp, rich in color hue and deep in black. They look good, richer than the ink used in the Heroquest cardboard pieces -- much richer than any of my computer print-outs. The ink side of each page is coated with what feels like a plastic covering. It does repel moisture, which makes these printed pages superior to the water-based ink of home computer printers (unless you coat your print-outs with a spray-on acryllic coating). I'm going to have some hi-res pictures later -- I already have some of the props built up: bookcases, crates, a ladder... I just love putting this stuff together (really... the reason I bought this)! Denny, if you know of any websites selling this, that allow user reviews (like amazon does), let us know so we can go out there. |

Here is the link, and it is not on RPGNow.com (it is located on rpgshop.com...): http://www.rpgshop.com/product_info.php ... b59a86833b You CAN leave a comment about the product, just look for the "Comment" link, at the lower-left of the screen -- it looks like a red, wax seal. Cheers! |

Sergenth, Thanks for popping on and sharing your thoughts about our first printed release! One of the big things I want people to realize is the astounding difference in image quality and your description did a good job of nailing it. The difference between what you print at home and the professional 300 DPI laser prints on ultra high quality paper we are doing are like night and day. The other thing I'm going to start harping on is how much cheaper it actually is to buy pre-printed compared to printing at home (once you consider ink and material costs). And finally you get a perfect backup of the model set on an interactive CDROM if you need to print additional props from home. I really hope this formula is successful because I'm dying to convert our other sets to print. Once again, don't worry about me abandoning the PDF market...it's still my primary money maker and makes the most sense with my current business model. Anyway, thanks for your support Sergenth! |

Well, it's 2.25 days later, and what a glorious mess this makes. My wrist hurts! Yes! I've got stacks of floor tiles by the keyboard, topped by a few completed wall, fireplace and column pieces. A plastic shoebox is filled with all of the furniture minus some tables and chairs and a bonebridge. The drawer to my right has the remaining 8 pages, 2 cut into, and on top of that, there are several unscored walls being worked on while I wait to buy a new edging marker tomorrow (Thin Expo markers lose their juice too fast). At this crazy pace, I'll be completely done by Friday evening! It's good to have the time for it. ![]() Some things I've learned about the Darkstone Halls in particular: - 2 standard-size foamcore sheets are needed for all of the floor pieces! - I'm leaving chairs till last. - Linking Columns stick over the edge of the floor tile on all sides! (uh oh...) - Tables are easily modified to be box-constructed (for supporting figures) - Colors are beautiful. The Glyph Gate and the Lava Channels practically glow! - Glue-tabbing during construction is well designed. The order for glue application is easy or has a neat trick to it at the final step. After all is completed, I'm going to crack open a Heroscape game (that I'll purchase soon), and set up some Dungeon-styled play for my little 3 person group. Weeow! |

Okay, Denny! I've posted six pictures to Dungeon Keeper's Domain. (Thanks for the hosting space, dkd). I'll have some more pics when I've got the full set done and configured into a proper, eye-goggly dungeon. |

Now that's good news! I hope that this continues to go so well. The Auld Grump, who may well end up buying a print copy of The Maiden of the High Seas... |
