Hi, im after building a space hulk, seen the two kits i want, Hellworks and Spaceworks, will they both fit together? Im using obviously GW figures though on standard bases not the new larger ones.

Also may i ask, what are the basic dimensions of the two kits as ships? width and length.

Celestus Pravatis: HellWorks IIImight be your answer, as it meshes Spaceworks and Hellworks into one product. It is also backwards compatible with FirstLight also.

Hellworks III is a modular build design, so it isn't set to any particular length or width. It is made up of sections either 3"x3", 3"x6" or 6"x6" in any configuration you would like.

FirstLight is what we call semi-modular. Its rooms are designed around a particular layout, but can be mixed, matched, and moved around if desired, and if you're willing to "kitbash" a little. In its "standard" configuration, the FirstLight is 21" wide and 19" long.

Firstlight Retrofit is an expansion pack to FirstLight that makes it more modular, adds more options, and fits into the original design by going upwards, not sideways.


Finally, don't disregard Shadowcore Prime. It would be the perfect setting for a "reverse" Space Hulk scenario, and there are kitbashes out, such as this one:

That would be a great way to depict an infestation underway (shown here is a bash of the escape pod, "tub", and one corridor from FirstLight).

Many thanks for the replies. As i want the Hulk not only for Genestealers, but also to represent a Chaos/loyalist ship, they sound fine to me. I was thinking of having the ship on two levels, one table the lower and one table the upper. Might just have one large tabled ship instead.

Is there a better pic of that infestation kitbash? and would it work with other settings?

HellworksIII is a nice bit of kit indeed, im trying it, by printing on Sticky A4 labels, then onto foamcore, seems to work ok.

Quick question for those who use foamcore, to stop it sliding on the table, how do you overcome the problem?

Do you mean stop sliding while cutting or when its finished? Are you using the smooth finish or the paper finish foamcore?

Sorry, i meant when finished, and i am using the smooth/shiny white foamcore.

Most folks either put down a felt mat and put a couple hook side pieces of velcro on the bottom of the pieces or glue felt to the piece itself. I'm not overly familiar with the sci-fi sets, though, so hopefully someone who is can help a bit more.

If you're just looking for traction on you tabletop I recommend removable poster gum. Now I have never had a problem with it effecting the table top, but do test it yourself to be sure. But anyway for me it gives me a very sold hold, and then when I'm done I just roll it up into a ball to use next time.

I have found that a coarse felted mat works pretty well, even without Velcro. I use a mat designed for wargaming that I picked up at The Warstore. Mind you, for the most part I have had larger builds that aren't all that modular, so slipping would not be a huge problem. I never did get to use the F L hallways and rooms I built for a B5 game that never happened.

I'm afraid that's the best picture I have of it, and it's not really portable (without doing a lot of your own kitbashing), as the infetation is built right into the Firstlight walls.
