Hey guys,
Just letting you all know I am designing a crap load of Fantasy Villagers for use as background characters. I just wanted to get a feel about how Denny, and you other guys feel about me making sets like this for specifi WWG sets. I have in mind to make some sitting figure flats that work with WWG's Interiors Pub set.

I know you guys do you own figures, and our styles do match up well at all. I do want to design more sets, some specific to the themed terrain WWG makes. But I don't want to duplicate effort if you guys are planning the same thing, then it's not very practical for me to do the same thing. God knows I have enough work to do all my own themed designs, but I want to figure sets to get the most use out of the available terrain sets.

This means I also have some cool underwater figure designs for the Atlantis terrain set, battle under the sea, so to speak. I have tons of ideas for figure sets for use with the various WWG sets, and I would very much like to make them specific with the possibility of doing bundles ,cross over sales, etc..

So let me know if you think this is a cool idea, or I have been snorting too much pencil lead again...

Everyone here loves your work Jim. Yeah, we do our own standees but because the styles are so different I think they can inhabit the same market pretty safely. I think your stylization is great!

I'm not keen on paper figures but thought I would throw out this request; I never see WWG standees in any other race but human. Perhaps some other typical fantasy races would fill in the ranks nicely?

That may change in the future. However, for the present it depends on what you consider human. Shelledrak Manor and Wildwood Grove offer zombies, a Maiden's 20 offers ghost pirates (or is it pirate ghosts?) and Firstlight XX has robots and cyborgs in it.

Have you checked out the wide range of paper minis from Jim over at OneMonk.com? I have three sets of the WWG minis but I also LOVE the onemonk stuff - very evocative artwork and fits in well with the WWG terrain models. In fact, you can even print up bases for them using textures and graphics from various WWG model sets, which is very useful (no Himmelveil yet though!). Just a thought.

I have and it's high quality stuff. I just don't like using paper standees for PCs / NPCs. Second hand DDMs are silly cheap and I don't have to cut them all out =)

I would LOVE to see WWG make more standies. Human or no, more variety helps fill in all the gaps from the endless variety and backgrounds covered in gaming.

I did figures because I saw a niche I could fill, doing something I enjoy!

Hopefully I can work with Denny here at WWG to make specific themed sets for some of the more obscure terrain sets, at at the least work with Denny so we don't end up designing the same thing. I have PLENTY of figures I can make without duplicating designs from another publisher. Although this gets a bit messy when you talk about basic stuff like villagers, buy hey! just get them all and mix them up.

I made a ton of notes for the undersea battle set, but this may take me about 6 months to really flesh out completely. I want to do a bunch of designs released all at the same time so it doesn't take me 5 years to finish a series. I have a folder full of reference art for the figure designs, from shark riders, sea horse knights, to octopod people, sea dragons, giant turtles, and all that other cool fantasy undersea stuff.

So, I for one look forward to seeing whatever standies you WWG designers have in store. Feel free to borrow any of my ideas from my forum, I have about a hundred more that I haven't posted yet. I have more figure designs planned, that I have lifetime to actually finish.

Love your stuff, Monk, and I would love to see WWG figure pairings from you. Definitely!

I am also not a big fan of paper minis - but I run a game for kids every Saturday afternoon. Being able to use figures where I don't have to worry that the players will destroy my paintjob! is a godsend.

So, despite not liking paper minis I own most of the One Monk sets - much easier on my nerves. Plus they can be bunged into a box and carried to the game with no problems. Heck, I have occasionally packed in some extra figs for use with the Cheapass Games that I am fond of. (Kill Doctor Lucky, Huzzah, and Deadwood in particular. Great games, if you can find them.)

The figures are quite well done and offer excellent variety at a very good price. (Heck - if Jim ever wonders whether his free offerings are a good idea - his freebies led to my making a lot of purchases later on. And it all started with his Cthulhu and his moss covered T. Rex skeleton. )

I have all three of those, and a bunch more besides - excellent, fun little games. I *really* had a blast with Deadwood and Kill Doctor Lucky (also Starbase Jeff, another favourite). Good times, good times.
