How long does it take everyone else to build WWG models, compared to the times listed in the instructions? I ask this because I consistently take much longer to build a model than the posted build time. I built Skull Rock last night, and it took me two hours (compared to the 30 minutes listed in the instructions). This one was a little unusual in the extra time it took - but I've found that usually I running at twice the approximate build time. Now, I've gotten fairly proficient with my knife and straightedge over the last six months, and I've pretty good at gluing as well. I wonder if I'm just incredibly compulsive about edging, which I do before gluing, and about lining up pieces as I glue them, and... well, most everything in model construction, plus I also often reinforce models with extra corner and roof braces (from larger scraps). Anyone else want to fess up to how long it takes them on builds? |

Hmmm, I am a fairly fast builder, but I have never timed myself on the components, merely on the completed model. I like the phrase 'it's done when it's done'. The longest I ever took was on the pirate cove that eventually got scrapped (well, partially scrapped, the inn is still around, but because the Maiden was so much larger than I had expected the cove itself was given to a Skaven player for Mordheim.) Because of the constantly changing design, the addition of elements from new sets as they came out, and other factors the projected time kept changing on me. (It started with Interior Works: Inns and Taverns, Interior Works: Castles & Keeps, Cave Works, and Dungeon Works, then Gothic Realms came out, so the DW was partially replaced with GR. Then Sea Works: Skull Cove added the docks and a free standing crane,... and then The Maiden was 10 inches larger than I planned for! (Not a complaint, I love the Maiden, and would not want her any smaller, she was just better than I had expected and planned for.) So roughly 1/2 the project went west. The Project as projected was around 2-4 hours a night for 6 months, but this also included the time to paint undead pirates. I still plan to finish it someday, but well... the enthusiasm faded somewhat when I realized I would have to rebuild so much of it. The tower Bridge took maybe three hours the first time, about half that the second. The Auld Grump, who's current projects are still gathering dust... |
