Those are Matt Lyon originals. Matt designed them to avoid the legal headaches of using licensed miniatures.

We've been bugging Matt to see about getting his sculpts caste for awhile now!

Thanks. I make 'em with regular old "green stuff", plumber's putty, super sculpey, milliput and wire of various sorts. I sculpt with a GW sculpting tool, dental tools and a few home made implements.

You guys flatter me but honestly I'm not very good at it. Proportions are wonky, scale is out the window... I just do it to amuse myself and avoid legal entanglements as Denny mentioned.

I am sculpting my first ever Dwarf for upcoming promo shots right now. He needs alot of work...

Better than my sad attempts at sculpting. I am decent enough at modifying minis, and can even fill in missing detail, but my definition on the few originals I have attempted.... Fingers are supposed to have bones dammit! What I ended up with were tentacles, not fingers! Hands and faces suck! (Especially hands, 'cause they look like they should be easy.)

Scale and proportion I could get while making the armature, though Reaper makes some decent premade armatures. (Ral Partha used to use skeletons... it has a certain logic, I suppose.)

Nope, they shouldn’t. Hands and feet are the most difficult thing to draw and sculpt. There is a reason why Da Vinci studied for years on hands. There’s a reason why Mickey Mouse has only 4 fingers.

Now I just thought he was an inbred mouse, wow the things you learn around here.

Actually, Mickey Mouse (and many other animated characters) have three fingers and a thumb because it's more cost-effective for animation studios. Weird but true!
