There was a post in another thread regarding Mayhem Industrial being retired and as that was a set I'd had on my "wish-list" for a while (and have since missed out on...doh!)...

Is there or are there any plans to have some sort of consolidated list of retired or soon-to-be retired sets? Maybe a graveyard section of the store?

I see this thread has some listings as "no longer sold," but maybe something dedicated to retired sets would be helpful?

And I apologize if I've missed a thread on this, I didn't find it through a forum search.

I think it would be appreciated if a set was th ebe retired in the near future, it was announced here (and maybe even discounted for a period) as a grand farewell.

Which sets were actually retired?

I'm not positive, but it seems Mayhem Industrial is gone, along with the original, non-TLX Mayhem Armoury (this one is more understandable in my view). Mayhem Downtown is missing too, I believe.

Just so that its noted, sets which were retired are still recorded in your Orders history but have been removed from the general catalog due to their age, quality concerns or comparable replacements (TLX Conversions and or incoming conversions).

Was Mayhem Industrial the Warehouse? If so that may explain why I could not find what I thoguth was a product I was looking to buy today...

There is a Mayhem Industrial TLX VERY close to completion. We've been so busy with the website, TerraClips and other developments that we forgot to throw it on the "In the Works" meter.

I'm sorry to see these sets retiring. I understand that TLX is a more popular and flexible system, but I never considered buying any of the TLX sets. I'm probably in the minority here, but my gaming time is far too limited to put in the initial work for that system. I was looking forward to picking up the older Mayhem sets when I get more involved in a game group, and I'm sorry to see that I won't have that chance anymore.

I think the question was more asking about a new purchase of one of these sets. I know personally Mayhem Industrial was on my list of "eventually", though had I known it would no longer be available, "eventually" probably would have changed to "now".

Nothing to take away from the new launch, despite not having the time or resources at present to do any building, I think it's time I finally crack and buy some sets. (Titan Streets I'm looking at you)

Don't worry uncre8d1, we've got other products and product lines in the works which address different scales of hobby time. We realize that not everyone has time for TerrainlinX and although it is an extremely popular system, we're working at expanding less time heavy offerings.

And this...so that we compulsive completists have a chance to grab the sets before they go away, forever.

Unless I've just been missing them, advanced warnings would be great. For me, an emailed newsletter would be best but a dedicated forum thread would work.

Oh, on the subject of sets for varying time commitments, it might be worth thinking of them also in scale of difficulty. Some of these sets being retired would be good "entry level" projects for people who might be daunted by a TLX set.

Okay based on this thread, what exactly is the time line from Vault to gone? I still need to get the rest of the PCON line. By the way, I am happy to see the vault price drop, would have bought anyway though.

I wish I could give you a better answer there ehisey but the truth is that it depends on when a new development comes along to replace the old. And that is totally variable depending on what we're busy working at in a given month.

Current products in the Vault will remain for a good while yet but you can start the countdown on those items if and when you see a TerrainlinX version pop up on the "In the Works" bar. A good example is the work being done to convert Mayhem MegaMall to TerrainlinX. It's in our Vault but because the TerrainlinX replacement is in production, its days are numbered.

This isn't the first time we've retired products, there's actually a number of products we killed because they were simply no longer representative of our current standards. Its not just about replacing them, its about grossly improving them in that process (sometimes to an almost unrecognizable level). Digital catalogs are good and bad that way. Good in that you can archive a lot of stuff...very bad because it makes it harder to retire extremely dated products we are no longer satisfied with and might give people the wrong impression (but which customers might remain attached to for various reasons). Its a tough balance.

I can understand the change, but some of my most highly recommeneded sets have gone and don't yet have replacements.

Specifically:
- VillageWorks: effectively the SwiftScenics/Props Set for fantasy towns, villages and farms
- CaveWorks: which contains the best free format subterranean terrain I've seen.

And I still want to get Something Below, just to get the CaveWorks add-ons it contains.

All I'll try to compile a list of retired sets tonight, I'm behind on updating the release date thread anyway

VillageWorks was INCREDIBLY long in the tooth, to put it kindly. A great opener to the whole "build a village on the cheap" concept but nearly everything in it lacked our current level of polish and formatting. It has since effectively been replaced with Thoumont's & Streets of Himmelveil. We are however tackling Swiftscenics style Medieval buildings in the not too distant future, so we'll have you covered on both ends of the spectrum.

Caveworks; again, this is a very old set which has been screaming for a replacement for some time now. There's something in the works and I'm fairly confident that you'll enjoy it a whole lot more

I know retirements sting a bit but you've got to look at it from the perspective of new users visiting our storefront for the first time. If we left all of our old offerings on-tap indefinitely, new customers might buy something on impulse only to discover that the item in question is completely lacking current expected standards. That's a good way to lose long-term support to competitors.

All of that said, it was mentioned elsewhere but we do intend on providing legacy download support to customers who need it. If you've got something in your very old order history that you need replaced, we'll make that available to you if you've misplaced it. If you always wanted to purchase product X but it has since been retired, well, its been retired because its either being replaced with something much better or it just isn't relevant or up to par with our current direction and standards.

Also gone are the D20 adventures, it looks like.

Missing Persons in particular might be worth uddating to Pathfinder/TLX.

Man sombody slap me... I had most of the missed ones correctly updated on the release date list, but I didn't copy them over right.... Teach me to try to do with with kids underfoot asking for things

But that does not really help me with the build I wanted to do for say next week...
