Better thing to have GW last (currently and by many votes) They should notice that their stuff is frozen.

And even better to have three of the five finalist in sci-fi models being Corvus Belli models!! (the Spanish company of the spanish game Infinity)

I think this year in general showed GW what the forum really thought. Last year there was a stack more in the final rounds.

Absolutely true... It's delicate to keep doing almost the same since 1987 (Rogue trader), many gamers (including me) are running away from GW, and many others only keep playing (or buying) only due the huge effort and money they already put in WH40k or fantasy miniatures...

But there are lots of extremely interesting games out there, Infinity is top notch, its miniatures are almost the best and most original you can find (as TGN awards states), and many other games like Warmachine, Helldorado or Ron&Bones (another spanish game) are hitting even harder that GW...

This page shows up in the TGN website logs and I check all the links back to the voting from the site.

I've cancelled these awards before because of this sort of thing so don't think that I wouldn't disqualify a product or remove votes because of fans crowing about doing this sort of thing.

Lets try to keep the voting clean and on the "up and up" please.

If it becomes a real concern, just know that we'll support your decision, no hard feelings. I want TerrainlinX to win based on its own merits.

That's the reason I haven't advertised the nomination on our front page or on our newsletter (which has a substantial following). In all fairness though, you're just seeing things play out in a transparent way at our forums. I'm pretty sure its a common scenario being replayed by everyone involved ( though usually relegated to e-mail and other forms of communication). We just so happen to have an active community over here.

As much as I hate signing up for yet another website I don't care about and will likely recieve spam from... I had to vote given how close this contest was.

For those on the fence for similar reasons; registration & voting took less than 2 minutes. All you need to register is an username and email address. You do not need to fill out some stupid long registration form.

Looks like we are currently up by three. This has been the most intense internet vote back-n-forth I have recent memory of. I can't take much more.

No worries, you won't get spam. They are a reputable website and actually one of my multiple-times-daily visits for when I'm bored at work.

You know Denny, it wouldn't dent your integrity in the slightest to do more self-promotion, and it would help your business. You want TerrainLinX to win based on its own merits, but by not letting people know about the poll you are in restricting TerrainLinX support to only those people who are active on TNG or here.

The poll is about selecting the best product (and attracting more people to TGN), not seeing who has the most fans on the TNG forum. And lets not forget that each person voting makes their own decision about whether or not to vote. Letting people know about the poll just informs them - they are still masters of their own voting decision: if they want to vote for TerrainLinX at TGN they will, if not they won't.

So, instead of taking this decision upon yourself, how about letting your customers know about the poll and let them make their own decisions about whether or not to vote for TerrainLinX?

I was framing those comments based on "Pixelgeek's" concerns. I'm assuming he/she works at or moderates TGN (sorry Pixelgeek I don't recall what capacity you have there).

They obviously want the voting to be TGN-centric so the best we can do is respect that wish and try not to pimp ourselves too heavily. We could certainly tip the balance handily with a simple newsletter announcement but that wouldn't be playing fair.

Well, if it were me, I'd put out a notice that the poll is up, that WWG is in the running, and remind everyone of the rules. That's 'fair' and in your self-interest as well.

If you're really concerned, and are willing to live by the answer, you could contact TGN and find out what is ok within their rules, then do what you can within those rules.

I think Pixelgeek's comment was targeted more at people double-voting, not to discourage you from marketing your own product. Looked at from the other side, as long as there is decorum, TNG wins whenever more people come to their site. And consumers win when they have good, rasonably-priced choices. TLX will win lots of hearts as people discover it. This poll is a good way to speed that process.

I know that I never knew TNG existed until I saw this thread and went and voted. But I'm an infrequent visitor and could easily have missed this thread.

So, in some ways it's unfair to TNG if you withhold traffic from their site by failing to let everyone know about the poll. And it's unfair not to let your fans know that TNG exists... ...as long as you stay on the clear side of TNG's rules.

I've got no problems with people promoting the contest or their products via newsletters or their website.

That seems quite fair to me.

You won't get spam from TGN. I don't have the time nor the inclination to do it.

The registration is to avoid ballot stuffing. I figure if you can't be bothered to register then you can't be interested enough to vote

And while you are there voting for WWG have a look at the other ballots as well

I have to say for me I read TGN some times, but till this never bothered to register, to vote for Himil and another product from a different company are what got me to register.
