Post subject: | Spaceworks: Scales? |
Hi all, Back up and running after YET another computer hardware meltdown. Sigh. Ah, well, the new chip is 1.92 Ghz! Yippee! So I'm in development of the first Spaceworks set, and I see Denny is making some changes to CWU to make it compatible with 1" and 1.5" scales. The question is, is it worth making Spaceworks in 1 AND 1.5 inch scales? With this set it's not just a matter of wswapping floor tiles, it will require extensive re-engineering. |

Hm...well since we probably wont be using it in combination with the fantasy stuff and there is no clicky sci-fi (to my knowledge), I'd say leave it at 1" if its allready there. However, I like 1.5" simply cause it gives me more room. I can honestly say I will more than likely get it whether its 1", 1.5", or both. |

Well, I for one would definitely prefer 1". I don't think I'm in the minority, as the recent hubbub about CWU should attest. ![]() I think the best thing, really, would be to make it in both 1.5 and 1. I know that is more work, but by having a broader appeal, you're keeping your sales more open. While a lot of people will want Spaceworks for Heroclix or the new Star Wars Miniatures (not even sure if that's 1.5" or 1"), there will be many (like myself) that would want it for non-clicky games like RPGs and wargames (I think Spaceworks may have some appeal to Warhammer 40k players). Of course, the absolute best would be to have it like the Maiden, with 1", 1.5" and no-grid options. That is the most work, too, though. ![]() |

I don't like 1,5'' scale, because I don't use any SF minis that use it ![]() I am hard pressed to think of any minis use the 1,5 bases... the only ones coming to my mind are the 30mm bases used in Dark Age and Warmachine - not nearly enough SFish to use with Spaceworks. When do we get to see the promised teaser download? I am really dying to see, what you have cooked up ![]() |

What scale is the set already in? If it's the 1" then I would most probly leave it and gage the requests in the expansion. But if it's in 1.5 you might have do some work to keep the folks happy. Either which way so long as it has gridless I'll be happy - Wargamer all the way. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Would it be feasible to just scale everything up to get a 1.5" version? Yes, I know this has been asked before for the fantasy sets, but at least here we don't have any existing 1" sets we're trying to stay to-scale with. More precisely, what I'm asking is: Is the original resolution of the artwork good enough to scale everything up by 50% without any significant loss of resolution? If so, it should be very easy to put a separate 1.5" version of the set out. All you'd have to do is reshuffle the now larger pieces so they fit on letter/A4 size paper. You'll get about 50% more pages in the set, and everything will be 50% larger than in the 1" version, but it should require minimal work on your part. *Definitely* easier than designing a cross-compatible set! |

I'm in the same camp, I don't think there is a huge market for 1.5" in the sci-fi scale. If it is trivial to throw in a 1.5" grid and some adapter pieces (1.5", 3" and 6" length walls), then that might be good enough if you want to support 1.5" It would support HeroClix players. But I would not actually do the set in 1.5" as it seems that market is smaller. Janx |

Just to throw another 2 cents into the well - I don't think there's a 1.5" sci-fi market so I wouldn't go to the trouble. |

Looks like 1" is a winner so far. Thanks everyone! |

I would very much prefer the 1" scale for compatibility with my gaming and area taken up by models. However, given the skill of the WWG designers and the quality of their products, I'll be happy with whatever they produce and adapt the models to suit my needs. |
