I once wanted to print a black and white rulebook bought from drivethrurpg.com, and the Kinko's wanted to charge me THIRY-EIGHT BUCKS for one copy. The paper rulebook retailed for $40. The pdf was I think15 or 18, so buying digital was a mistake there. As it turned out I just printed it on my laser printer and bound it in a three ring binder and it is fine. I have a samsung laser printer I got at clearance at a local Microcenter about 2 years ago, for $100. I dont know how much printing I get out of a cartidge, but its alot, I can tell you! So I believe the price quotes for Staples. I think we might have to run into the thousands-per-page t o get sufficient economies of scale to make mass printing feasible, but am always open to anyone who wants to get a quote--we'll always be able to sell our extras on this site--with no profit, just at cost, and only to registered Worldworks purchasers. WE just have to decide if it makes sense to shell out $1000 and risk not getting it recouped to have maybe $5 each against printing on our inkjets...may not make sense.

The next time someone in the print industry complains about how their industry is drying up, Im gonna tell them this pdf story and my pdf story. No wonder their business is drying up--bad customer service, and you can do it yourself at home cheaper and faster!

Canon and Epson inkjets, using quality generic inks or refills, seem to be the cheapest to go. Even having your own low cost color laser printer with toner can be more expensive than an inkjet, supply-wise.

Running an inkjet in lighter color mode seems to produce more vibrant colors, especially on darker sets like CWU, and also should save ink.

I get most of my WWG stuff printed professionally on super high quality laser printers. I haven't had any issue to date with cracking, chipping or peeling, and the quality is phenomenal.

I wouldn't recommend going to Kinko's if you want to get it printed. They don't care about you or your business - you're really not who they want to cater to. A better bet is to look for a local short run print shop - look in the yellow pages for a printer that specializes in short runs. They do want your business, exactly the kind of business you represent, and you can get pretty decent prices from them.

I hooked up with the printer I use this way. I approached him about printing some of Denny's sets (at the time, Gothic Realms and Arena Works), and asked what his price would be. He quoted me $.50 a page, with a minimum 100 pages. From that first print set, I was sold, and now I get nearly all my WWG stuff printed through him (I consult for him, so its work for trade - but we still use the $.50/page as the benchmark).

After printing the Gothic sewers on my home inkjet, and comparing it to the high quality prints ... there is no comparison. You can't truly appreciate how incredible Denny's work is until you see it done high-res. It is just spectacular.
