Well dagnabbit... what am I going to do while I'm in BC all week then? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to settle for a bit of hiking once my wife's conference is over.

The connectors appear quite thick and take up fully half of the two squares they adjoin. That's a lot of real estate for a miniatures-based game, especially if one is using paper minis which can be a wee bit unstable.

I noticed that as well from the pictures that Aubrey posted on his travel blog. But Aubrey also mentions the following:

I too thought the clips were too intrusive. A build to be admired from afar yes, but to actually play on it, no.

I agree. Close up they really looked bad ... the 'duct tape' of RPG 3D terrain, so to speak. They held the pieces together but made the model look tacky.

There are other interlock systems out there that could sidestep that mess.

Here's my take on the clips - they look great on the large tiles and walls, where they take up very little of the 'market space' on the tiles. The small tiles also look decent. While the clips take up more space on the tile than I'd like, it's tolerable. The balconies, however, are a real mess, clips-wise. They take up most of the real estate provided by the balcony piece, and really distract from the great texturing beneath.

It seems to me that TLX was closer to what they needed ... 'tab and slot' and 'tongue and grove' style of model building. There are also non intrusive methods used in model railroad structures that ought to be looked at. Anything except those clips, which destroy the art and flow of the model.

Funny thing is on the main "TERRACLIPS REVEALED!" thread you can't see them at all!

And, also from that thread, the reason for that is because the preview images for those are high quality computer renders done with an isometric view (note how all four sides of the grid are the same length, all of the walls stick straight up, and there are absolutely no gaps other than the TerraClips notches).
Still, we have pictures of the clips in action, which will allow people to buy knowing what they're getting.

Can you show us what these are, and do you think they could be used for TerraClips joining?

I wonder if the clips don't look as intrusive in real life. Perhaps the camera, and it's flash, is making the clips stand out like a sore thumb?

I am told by Aubrey that this is largely the case, however in this first run of clips part of the problem with the manufacture was they were not crystal clear but slightly "frosty" making them all the more noticable. Future runs will be perfectly transparent.

Times like this I hate living so far away from the USA and the UK...... miss all the good shows......

They do look better up close. That said, the nature of the design means that sometimes minis are going to be tilted by sitting partially on a clip. While this wouldn't bother me, I can see how some players wouldn't be cool with it.

Thanks Fayden, was great to meet you as well! It was really rewarding meeting everyone at GenCon this year. So much enthusiasm for what we do at WWG, it was a genuine pleasure. After 9 long years doing this thing it was about time!

I'm still working on my roundup of the GenCon experience. Have to take care of the family and neglected duties at home first

Were there any user builds displayed? Got pics of them or the official WW builds?

So the big question for you all is....

Denny, was it worth the cost/effort to go to GenCon and will you do it next year?

I couldn't make it this year due to a new baby, but if you are going next year I'll have to seriously consider going...
