Yeah I forgot to add a note about the cost savings or at least the impact of having to mount the templates using the old method. When you calculate material costs (foamcore, paper, glue) and balance that against your time, price differences start mattering less. On the question of available formats; initially we'll only be offering the blended starter kit. This will be our ultimate gauge in determining if there is a viable market to push forward with individual frames of specific items. Right now its all about finding a format that is most cost effective on the manufacturing end. |

But if I'm using the robo cutter and I'm only using 3/16th inch foamcore then it won't be a problem right? The tiles will wrap around securely and everything will line up? Also I was thinking of doing double sided tiles, is that not possible with my current crop of tiles? I've only cut out the tiles and put the anchors on (no foamcore mounting yet) but if I won't be able to do a double sided pieces with 3/16ths mounts then I'd have to wait for 1/4" mounts... which is really frustrating cause I've been building for a while (I have around 80 6x6 tiles ready to go) and can't wait to finally mount these things. |

3/16" foamcore works fine from a functional standpoint. Have you actually built a tile yet? If not, go do so now--just build ONE tile and you'll see that it works okay. You just have to pay a little (and I do mean little) more attention to making sure the sidewalls of the tiles are 90 degrees than you would with 1/4" foamcore. Double sided tiles won't work, again for reasons that are obvious when you actually build a tile yourself. -Mel |

Will it not work because it won't be a 1/4 inch thickness or because it would never work? I figured by cutting off the sides of the "bottom" tile and just gluing it in place to the bottom it would be ok. Worst case scenario I would cut off any bottom tabs from the top face of the tile and everything from the bottom face of the tiles. Will this not work? |

I echo Mel here, the 1/16" is very small, it is noticeable when you look at the bottom of the tiles don't get me wrong, but doesn't interfere at all with the way the system works, nor interfere with the way tiles look from above. What Mel is referring to in that the double siding tiles not working well has to do with the 1/16" of an inch. It is noticeable enough from the bottom that any tile you cut out and glue on there will just look weird. As Mel states in another thread, just trimming down the floor tiles to 3/16" doesn't help either as many pieces are made with the floor tiles being 1/4" in mind (ie double high posts) that would then no longer be usable. |

But if I wait for 1/4" precut tiles it won't be a problem? If that's true then I'd rather wait for 1/4" precut tiles then buy 3/16th inch. |

Laser? Or metal cutting press? I haven't gotten into Terrain Linx primarily because of the fiddly bits which are used to hold the walls in place. I know my skill and I figure that that would be a soul crushing experiece for me to cut all of them out just right. I haven't had as much difficulty cutting foam core but then I haven't exactly tried the Terrain Linx style of things. That does look unpleasent. I'd probably shell out (and pay more) if I could pick up all the fiddly bits including the corners. That would save me lots of time. I wonder if you could knock square holes in the base material and sell (black) square pegs that fit into that slot. Then all I have to do is worry about building up the walls and floors. I bet you could glue the walls around the posts. Hmm.. |
