Laser is actually incredibly expensive. Its not so much the method (machine time is about the same as CNC) as it is material limitations and cut depth. Lasers melt foam and create a scalloped edge that destroys the product (we found that out the hard way). You then have to move to a lightweight plywood which ramps up the price and then 3/16" & 1/4" are outside of most platforms cut depth range. They essentially had to cut two templates and glue them together. The end product was ultra expensive and too heavy.

CNC machining is substantially cheaper. Or at least its cheaper in relation to the small runs we'll be doing.

You keep mentioning that this is expensive. Do you have a rough guestimate how much your one-sheet would end up costing.

I do have a general price but I'm holding off on that until we figure out the machine time on the new starter format. I really don't want to put my foot in my mouth until I'm 100% confident in the quotes given to me.

Will it be more or less than buying your Terraclips product?

I selected 1 originally but I doubt I'll be buying any now. I believe I'm going to solely focus on terrainclips.

As is probably obvious by now, TerraClips & TerrainlinX (TLX) are two different beasts with unique user-bases.

TLX mounts are a purchase of convenience, they aren't as cost effective as doing large quantities of manufactured product. It's a lot like a print-on-demand service but we're using CNC technology instead of print technology. TLX mounts are for those that don't want to deal with cutting foam mounts but still enjoy the benefits of the PDF, TLX system. So, unless you're really into TLX and making your builds huge in a vacuum of time, this may or may not be the product for you.

We'll be rolling this out as planned to support that aspect of the business and for some it will definitely hit the sweet spot.

Unless the cost of shipping to England makes them to expensive I will still be buying TLX mounts.
The flexibility of being able to print, glue and build TLX is the main reason I plan to continue using it over TerraClips. Especially when you are putting together an apartment block and find that you need a few extra of one type of wall over the others you already have.

I'd be another one in the interested at 1/4" camp. If the build isn't going to look any cleaner then it isn't worth an additional expense to me, if it is however...

I'm in the likely to buy if it's affordable (not thinking cheaper than foamcore of course) as I've got a digital cutter for the folds etc, but I hate cutting out the foamcore, it's really slowing down my building at the moment.

For me shipping costs are likely to be the deciding factor, as they often work out higher than the product cost itself. So in my case the question will be: "How much for a whole box, shipped to New Zealand?"

For me, the biggest issue is the time it takes to make the mounts. It's a large amount of time but in the end you just have these stacks of foam tiles cut but nothing is glued/put together yet. If these were at a good enough price point for me, I could basically jump straight to cutting and glueing - and after an hours time I would have tangible stuff I could put together instead of a stack of tiles.

I love the idea of TLX, the time it takes to make is my biggest issue so anything that speeds up things would help.
Cost will be a major factor, you need a lot for a decent layout, my current setup is 4ft by 5ft which I would love to redo with the TLX system.
Shipping to Canada from the States often makes the cost prohibitive.
The hidden charges UPS charge can nearly double a products cost, if you ship by UPS only I will not be buying in. Worth looking into how much product can be fitted into one of the standard USPS boxes this would give a simple standard price point for shipping.

Not necessarily. Apple Computers is HQ'ed in Cupertino California, but my laptop shipped directly from China.

So while WWG is HQ'ed in BC, Canada, the actual product maybe produced and shipped from the US, China, Mexico, etc.

Depending on International Handling of TLX and Terraclips will be the decider for me on both products. I dont have alot of time to build anymore although I do enjoy it.

TLX templates would help immencely especially overcoming the dificulty it is getting foamcore in the UK (it always seems to be an uphill battle).

Terraclips is the big seller for me ATM but right now ill just wait and see on pricing/shipping.

Both TerraClips and TerrainlinX continue to be top priorities for us. September will see a lot of movement on many fronts.

I'm about to buy into the Mayhem sets and TLX heavily since two games I'm into make use of urban terrain, especially so with the new Destroyed set out.

However, I practically busted up my wrists and tendons while working at a graphics/print shop where I was responsible for making new foam board displays, doing complicated foam core cuts by hand. My arm never really recovered from that abuse.

I would gladly pay for not just a sturdier and more permanent mounting board, but also to save myself even more trouble.

I assume the first run is still going to be 3/16" thickness?

For me, cutting foamcore is the easiest part of the build. It's a therapeutic break. There are many foamcore suppliers in my small city. It's as low as 1.00 a board. I have different colors, thicknesses, and quality right beside me behind the love seat.

Over the weekend I bought a bunch of Foamcore and printed out the mounts, and am working on a bunch of the hand cut foamcore for when Titan gets released...

If this comes out first will be a bit miffed...

I hate cutting foamcore. I can't cut very many mounts in one sitting without a tendonitis flare up. You guys have released so many great sets in the last year, and I've been frustrated by how slowly I am able to realize my grandiose TLX dreams. This sounds like the perfect solution for me. I would buy 3/16", but am also interested in 1/4".

I eagerly await more details.

Any idea of how these will distributed? I mean through normal game distribution (i.e game distrbutors - to the stores?) or is this going to be a direct sales item from Worldworks?

If it is direct, when are you taking preorders? I'd like to know you wont run out. I plan on getting a few and then a few more when released (and if my commission check is timed accordingly).

If through a local store, i'd like to place and order with them.

Whenever someone asks me how hard our model sets are to put together I tell them the same thing; "they aren't hard but it is a hobby and therefor it takes time". The big benefit of the TerrainlinX system is that the time invested pays back 10-fold with elements you can reuse over and over again in new ways.

The pre-cut mounts will just make that process smoother and even more enjoyable!

Any news on the mounts?
