1.5 mm?

Is that the basic cardboard/cardstock thickness that is used in most hobby gaming boards/3-d Cardboard minis, etc. ? roughly the thickness of, say, a tile from a popular european style hobby game whose name I Can't remember where you place tiles in order to take control of terrain (somebody help me out please.)

yes that was the game I was thinking of, but couldn't recall because of all the head trauma that comes with a 3 and 5 year old boys.

1) any chance of getting furniture or other scenery in that 1.5 mm cardstock?
2) Do you own the patent for terraclips or do you share it with Wyrd? if so what are the chances of getting terraclips terrain for other licensed properties (i.e. how unlikely am I to ever see modern age terraclips possibly licensed through NECA/Wizkids for heroclix)

This is what I have been waiting for! I've been debating the cost of a cutter and ink for Thoumont's but I've never jumped in because of the time involved. This is perfect, looks awesome, great price and perfect timing! I've already got the money in hand for one of each and my group is going to by a second set of each as well.

That's absolutely reasonable. And I wasn't thinking about the whole piracy thing, but I'm sure it's never far from your mind.

I'll definitely pick up a couple and see how everything works. It sounds like you'llbe offering this through normal distribution, so I'll keep my ongoing support for my FLGS and order through him. Hopefully he'll decide to stock it.

These look very cool, and I hope it's not too much to ask for you guys to release some more sets soon covering Mayhem and sci-fi settings, is it? It's great that Malifaux has some totally pimp sets, but I'd like to get some for Pulp City and Infinity as well

Please, please tell me you're going to come out with a dungeon version? Not only would this be perfect for my own gaming needs in a month or two, but it would be the ultimate way to convince the WotC forum crowd that they don't have to use the Dungeon Tiles simply because they don't think they can use a knife to cut out times without losing a body part.

Gang, let me just make crystal clear (if it was misinterpreted from previous posts) that the success of the product will dictate whether or not future products are made at all. There obviously needs to be substantial support for us to push forward with future products in this format.

That said we of course have a number of directions we can consider going and we'd love the opportunity to go there.

Looking closer at the detail on the Buildings preview... I really like what you've done with the doors.

I have no Idea how much has been printed, but I find it unlikely you'll have any left in 3 months. I've shown this to 4 people so far, all of whom don't do cardstock modeling and who plan to order this.

In all seriousness, I'm prone to excitement getting the better of me. I've been known to get too excited. That said.

TLX was a revelation of what cardstock terrain could be and do.

This is the beginning of a sea change. I fully expect RPG gamers to be seriously irritated at your company for not producing material fast enough for them to buy it. I hope you have machinery in motion to get bigger fast because that's exactly what I see happening.

Printing will take about 2-3 months if I recall correctly, and you should sell out by late august (assuming you bought roughly 2,000 units or so). I hope you have either a dungeon set, a cave set or exterior set ready to produce by then because that will increase your audience. you should be able to get that and the second run out in time for nerd Christmas.

I would not be surprised if WOtC made moves to buy you by the end of the year. either way they will have a competing system in place by next years Gencon

I have to agree with everyone that this is a fantastic product.

That being said I am really upset that this came out. I have invested so much time, money and effort into terrainlinx that I would never have done if I had known this was coming out. To make matters worse this new system isn't even compatible with terrainlinx. The real question is whether I cut and run on all my work on terrainlinx now and just but 5 sets each of the new system or I continue my work on terrainlinx. I think I'll have to go with option 2 but I'm really upset that I wasted all this time on terrainlinx.


Denny: I believe that this new system will take off and be your new bread and butter. No one else has produced a product as high quality as this and makes terrainlinx obsolete. This stores more easily/densely, looks just as modular as terrainlinx and is beautiful. Wizards of the coast has tried to make something similar but looks bad/isn't as modular as this in comparison.


Congratulations on your success but as a customer I must admit I am very upset. I would rather have not wasted three months building something that is pretty much useless now.

I loved the concept of Terrain Linx but found it very time consuming to construct.

This, however, is perfect. I can't wait for more.

So will this be available at GenCon this year, or will it just be a "show and tell" model for us to look at but not be able to buy?

Will you be brining enough is the next question? I am thinking once this gets out you will have these flying off the shelf, because I know for myself i will be buying one of each.

Another thing I think would be too cool.

The stuff this allows you to do with normal angles is unparalleled (no pun intended). but what you could do in a partnership with Dwarven Forge could be even more phenomenal. Their ability to cast high quality 3-d products for relatively cheap (compared to what it could cost) could fit in nicely with your sets. You could combine to make an awesome fully customizable cavern with your products creating the structure while they could construct stalacities and other 3-d features that could increase the depth of the cavern.

They simply cannot afford to produce products at an entry level price point for most RPGers, most of their sets are $100+ and you need multiples to effectively play, but the two of you could work together to create a reasonably large cavern set for possibly an affordable $80 or less pricetag. perhaps even sell the parts separately but try to design the products to overlap.

When I found cardstock and TLX a few months back I was simply blown away, I felt like I was seeing maps in a whole new way.

This isn't a whole new way of looking at maps, this is a giant leap in gaming. with affordable easy to construct and layer 3-d terrain I fully expect RPG's to adapt to create new ideas about how to use it.

Like with the onset of prepainted 3-d minis I expect future RPGs and wargaming to adapt to the new terrain options as much as the terrain is built for the products.

Qpony: I just want to assure you that we are not dropping support for TLX releases. TLX remains our primary bread and butter and we have additional releases in the works. We would genuinely like to support both product lines if at all possible.

I feel your pain on this, but I'm not sure they are completely incompatible. For example, as someone pointed out, you could use the new buildings very easily on a Terrainlinx Streets or Hinterlands tile. I've been mixing and matching some of my older CWU buildings or Thoumont's effectively with Streets.

Someone else suggested a "transition clip" that would allow the two tile styles to sit next to each other. I don't know how well that would work (you may have to put some kind of "riser" material since the new tiles will be about 3 mm shorter), and I don't know if WWG is going to actually make such a transition pin. I'm wondering, though, if you could fake one simply by jamming a "X" pin into half a Terrainlinx tab (like on from the balconies). You might have problems pulling it out though. I've also thought I could just leave the two different types next to each other and not necessarily tab them together. I've done that with some of my builds, connecting 3-4 tiles together in a strip properly, but only using one or two tabs to hook the longer sections together, it speeds set up/tear down.

I'm also wondering if it would work well to intermingle the sets at different levels, ie new system forming the 2nd level, sitting atop the old system.

Nope, you're all good there! Wyrd is our partner and we want you to lavish their website with money We won't be handling direct sales at the WWG site but we will of course be heavily promoting the products in various ways.

This looks like a great products and I hope you have a lot of success with it. I'm already committed to tlx, though, I can't afford to start a collection of another format. Especially when I can't kitbash or print extras to replace damaged items. Still, I do expect you'll have a lot of customers from the section of the market that buys rather than makes terrain already, and there are a lot of them out there.

This is simply AWESOME!, and is exactly what I've been waiting for. TLX is great, but I simply don't have the time to build what I want for layouts and allow myself time to play.

Some questions:

1. What size is the grid? 1"? Will there be other sizes?
2. Any chance you can slip us plans for upcoming sets? In order of my personal preference: Dungeon? Caverns? Outdoors forestry (hills/knolls/etc)? Outdoors mountainous (hills/cliffs/Mts)? Desert? (dunes/oasis)? Swamp?
3. Any pics of builds using 1 full set?
4. Can you tell us if the first stocking will be low/med/huge? I'd hate to have tgem sellout and not be able to buy any for months.
5. Any chance for a less Goth/Steampunk looking town/village/city set? Possibly a more "simple" town look, with grass, some paved streets but mostly dirt roads, waterways, etc.
6. Are the prints lighter than TLX sets? Many folks, including me, find TLX very dark and can't lighten them up no matter what we do to our printer settings (without making them look like they are glowing)
7. Just how "transparent" are these clips? I hope they are barely noticeable if at all.
