Terraclips delayed!

I just heard... Wyrd announced an unavoidable delay in the Terraclips release. Seems now it's not gonna happen until later this year! Bummer. I've been so dang anxious to grab up these babies that I've been on the website every day, but now it's all on hold thanks to a mess-up by the manufacturer. The official announcement is on the Wyrd website, and I'm sure it will appear here at WWG very soon.

Probably not silly so much as frustrated.

Disappointing news, to be sure, to move things back to the original topic. What was the problem I wonder? Card too thin? Flaking apart? Ink coming off?

It definitely looks like the card's too thin. You can see in the demo build where some of the pieces have already warped noticeably, which I don't think should be happening with the thickness they want.

Mores the point - after signing off on the production ie the test prints looked great and were correct; who was the cheap skate at the printers that changed the thickness.

Wondering if printed in US or China - if the later, well..... it's hard to talk via mail.

My understanding is that most printing is done in the US for exactly these reasons. It is much easier to get an American printer to correct their mistakes. The cost is higher, but not quite on the scale of making miniatures in the US.

I wonder how many thousands of dollars in sales WWG is going to lose because of this foul up. Looks like GenCon was going to be a major showcase for the system, but with the obvious defects and delays in release to fix them some might decide to pass on the product.

There will be a core of supporters that will be willing to wait for as long as it takes for the problems to be resolved, but a bunch of compulsive buyers will probably pass because of the delay.

I like the idea of buying the system for the little ones to play with, so will wait until the release is finalized with the quality product.

I'm sure you're right about the impulse buyers, but I honestly don't thinkthey make up a significant portion of anything. Aubrey said that lots of people were sufficiently excited about tlc that they've been offering to buy the current run just to tide them over until the final product shows up.

I just hope the issue is solvable. It would be terrible if the product warped at any thickness.

Summarizing the problems:
1. Manufacturing errors:
- cardstock user was much lighter than specified
- gloss finish (should have been satin)
- clips not made to spec (too tight)

2. Extreme conditions when setting up the Gencon demos:
- very high humidity (aircon not running)
- sudden drop in temp and humidity (when they finally turned on the the aircon)

All in all, a very unfortunate combination of manufacturing errors on the first batch and fluke conditions during the setup at Gencon. Denny must be so frustrated.
Still, it looks like the product should be as good as promised once the manufacturer gets up to spec.
