O.k. as I print off a fleet of R-36's for the bay's of FirstLight it came to me I haven't got any music to play in the background!!! Help. Yes I have the Vanguals (Sp?) somewhere but something more modern would be good. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Holst's The Planets. For me science fiction works better with orchestral music... The Auld Grump |

Well, there is always the Star Wars soundtrack. ![]() I also find that sometimes soundtracks like the Matrix, Bourne Identity, etc work really well when you have combat. But for most parts, I agree with Grump - orchestral music is the best background music. |

A music thread! At last. I post a musical influences list in the credits of every model set so far. For this set the playlist has rambled far and wide: Disagreeable Industrial Techno: Velvet Acid Christ, Assemblage 23 Indy Rock: Failure, Arcade Fire Other: That Jay-Z vs Pavement thing, Prefuse 73, Boards of Canada, Coil, Dead Can Dance Box Set, Download, Klaus Schulze, Neutronic AARRGHH: ATR, Mad Capsule Markets |

That's amazing! I haven't heard of any of them! But then again my tastes lean toward folk music (mostly ballads), British Music Hall, and oldies... far too many of which weren't oldies when I first heard them. The Auld Grump - Mad is the crew bound for Alpha Centauri Dreamers and poets and clowns Bold is the ship bound for Alpha Centauri Nothing can turn it around Oh, we must believe in magic We must believe in the guiding hand If you believe in magic You'll have the universe at your command Crystal Gayle |

OMG, there is a Dead Can Dance Boxed set? I simply must have this... I've about worn out my 'Tward the Within' CD. I'd have to add: -Juno Reactor -Future Sound of London & -Apex Twin To my zoning out and modeling line up. -Floyd |

Radio Rivendell. Nice, I did not know about that. I'll be tuning in to that quite often. Thanks Denny. |

I think that a good companion for this set would be something from Voivod's early/middle years - Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross and/or Nothingface. |

Dead Can Dance is a definite, personal favorite. They definitely work for modeling "theme" music. ![]() I vary my background music, depending on what I'm working on at the time (I paint miniatures, too, so that's part of my "modeling" process). Anyway, for Sci-Fi stuff, I really, really like Klaus Schulze (an old electronic musician, now called 'Ambient') for dark, moody stuff. I rather like Kraftwerk a lot as well, though it's not typically as dark or moody (just cool). My absolute favorite artist, though, is Mike Oldfield. Tubular Bells (the original) is an incredible piece, as are many of his other "non-pop" albums. For First Light, I'd strongly recommend Songs of a Distant Earth by Oldfield (yes, it is based on the novel of the same name by Clarke). |

With all the discussion about music for First Light, I have to ask the question: what music has been used for all the other releases? For example, where did the stuff used for CWU come from? Would love to hear about that! |

Gods! I haven't thought about Voivod and Kraftwerk in ages. When I get home this afternoon I think I'll get out my old tapes and have a reminisc-a-thon.... |
