Hi-ho all

OK, so, I just bought DungeonWorks after much chin scratching.

Here's the problem - there's this guy who can pro-paint mini's like you wouldn't believe who also happens to have invested in a certain resin product for D&D settings. Anywho, playing in his games are like taking part in some kind of geek-art come fashion show*. In comparison, our games are played out on minis and white boards. I'm getting sick of the following conversations:

Me: NO! That goblin in the corner is a Dragon and that part painted Dark Elf is actually the cleric you're trying to save
Player: I'm running out the door over there
Me: What door?
PC: There! Where the gap in the walls is. And why have you got black ink on your sleeve?

See, I can paint mini's and I've been scratch building Mordheim houses from foamcore for a number of years. But with a 14 month daughter and second on the way, my painting time is over. Plus, I can't spend all that cash on resin sets - it just isn't worth it. Both of which points ultimately led me here (I may be the only one drooling over paper mini's)

Did I mention I bought DW? I've knocked up a few walls and corners but nothing much to write home about - still learning the trade. When you build stuff for Mordheim one thing you don't need is a straight edge. I'm focusing on quantity right now, since I can't do another session on a whiteboard and the next one is... Wednesday night. Once I get the hang of it, I'll probably replace the worse pieces or maybe not. You can never have too many straight walls or pit traps.

I do plan to post some piccies on our community boards so my friend can (hopefully) realise that he isn't the only one with cool kit.

I use the WWG sets mostly for kitbashing so I can sympathize with you about the need to break the molds, so to speak.

I also have a 5 year old boy that loves to do "battle" with the miniatures and WWG sets, a 2 year old daughter that loves to sit on my lap while we do "battle" and a 5 month old daughter that is definitely drooling over the models but probably more because she is teething... LOL

I tried to do some painting this past weekend. For a 3 day weekend I was able to prime exactly 3 miniatures... LOL

Welcome to World Works. I think you will find your time here worth it. I certainly have, as have many others.


Cardstock is a great alternative to scratch builds, and you will fill it stores and transports WAY more easily. Plus, its a lot cheaper, quicker to build, and easier to modify.


I think you'll also find that DungeonWorks is just scratching the tip of the iceberg. And if it was DungeonWorks Classic - well, just wait until you get into the newer stuff. DWC isn't bad, by any stretch - but the newer sets are simply unbelievable. What Denny (and Pall) have done for scenery is fantastic.


My five year old little girl likes to "help" daddy with his builds, too. We've gotten a decent arrangement going, where we work on projects together - her with her paper and glue and markers, and me with mine. It works well. For Christmas she wanted a box of D&D minis (to balance out all the Kim Possible and Barbie junk), and was just thrilled with what she got in her booster. Now she wants to play miniatures with me, on the cool scenery. Aren't kids fun?
