I like the idea of consolidating (mainly) the large and Capital ships into a data card/order card. Although the TOS was realy designed to eliminate the need for grease pencil, glass bead, chit and pencils to record and keep book keeping, I do see why some people would actually prefer this. I know we user it quite a bit in other games (such as Frag, and some RPGs). During the later stages of Beta, before we had a completed 3d TOS I used this to keep track of ships. And I slide a paper clip on the side to track damage. ~Floyd |

Ok, here's one option: The reason I asked about the font is because it might be nice to change the modchip language to read: "ModChip expansion interface" Anyhow, Up top is the reverse face of the card. Doing this would mean I'd have to sandwich 5 (count em 5) layers to make the chip thingy work. On the left is sort of a sliding switch. You could insert the sliders from the reverse side. Once everything's glued in place, they won't fall out. You can slide them up and down but not out. However they do get into the way of the damage slider. So I'm looking for ideas about how to deal with that one. I could swap the command switches and the damage sections, but I lose that nice warning strip border at the bottom. It wouldn't look right in the middle (Maybe make my own but that's waaaay too difficult to implement on all ships and future expansions. |

Ok, I give. I need a larger template. How does this grab you UHF? The intention would be to do a 1/2 fold so that the card-backs match up. You can cut off the stat cards from there if you like. I'll create some backing artwork and maybe toss some of the tray data on the back of the TOS. Also, the other ships would have 1 less card width. |

Ok, how does this look? I used the smaller fighter format this time. The larger format would just cover the rest of the sides. I arbitrarily limited the chip types to 6. They are indented so that the paper clip part of the inserts nest neatly onto the card. I still need to weather and pit the metal and eliminate the green cut lines, but this is the basic idea. Now I can create a 3-d indent using the sandwich tri-fold I was thinking about earlier, but this would be a simpler solution. It's also the fastest. Cut out the squares. Cut out the indents if you want to. Glue and fold in half. Cut off the cards if you want to. All other ships besides the hammerhead only have one card. Anything I missed? (btw: I'm very proud of how close I got to reproducing the wormhole metallic logo for the back of the first card.) edit: Oh yeah. I need to create a visual on the reverse side for those modchip cutouts. My bad. |

Good work. I assume you want my input... If not, ignore. I really don't like game combat system details on every card. I'm not even sure why the multiplication table is there either... Its not calculus you know. So I'd nix that, and put the real estate to better use. If you want a combat system summary, I'd put that on a different card. Just so you know... my beef is that I want to be able to cut out the damage octagons. So, top print out, mounted to foam core, then gets cut out, and another printout, is glued to the bottom. You now have something that safely stores beans. So, a bigger damage status area would be good because you know the hammer head has a long damage chart... Move the MODChip stuff and orders down, or at least make it so that there is more room. I (personally) would want to be able to cut down (into a mounted card) and just place the mod chips there. I'm thinking there would be little cubby for each status, and maybe one general cubby. You may not need to complete card print out for each ship. i.e. just the front graphics with the combat details is useful, even necessary (it has degraded ranges, damage, and other useful stuff). The fluffier writing isn't strictly necessary, and could still be left around in the original card form. So.. get rid of the back page of the ship cards (shortening your page), and create a 'general' card. The General card has the combat summary, and possibly room (you guessed it) to create a cut out for dropping the cards into. How about this; |
