I've talked to Denny, and he gave me the go-ahead for a project I've been wanting to do, but I need your help! The planet Atara was devastated by a planetwide struggle begun by deranged mechanical geniuses. Spaceflight, while not quite perfected by the Atarins, was nonetheless achieved on a massive scale by a Dr. Heironeus Fireplate (who intended to 'win' the war by simply finding an untouched world and setting up shop there, unopposed by anyone). As Dr. Fireplate's fleet launched from Atara's smaller moon, its crew and passengers were witness to the final destruction of their former civilization as one of the madmen below unleashed some sort of metallurgical transmogrification device, instantly melting all the metal within a mile of the planet's surface and coating nearly all the landmasses of Atara with a thin alloy plate. This is the Fireplate Fleet, a fan-built kitbash fleet for Wormhole. *ships are steam-driven, water heated/electricity provided by the element pallorium (which is manually tumbled to excite the 'humours' and create heat - by treadmill on small ships/shuttles and by teams of 'stirrers' (look like rowers) on larger ships). *Ships carry huge chunks of ice to use for propulsive fuel. Larger ships use ice as shielding, which breaks away into floating chunks (tokens) which block line of fire. *************************** FACTIONS: *************************** The Community of Sanctuary (Steaders)- broke away from the Fireplate fleet when Dr. Fireplate died and more agressive minds took over total defensive - use resources for protection -Mass drive - ship can scoot up to 36" in any clear direction but is immoble thereafter. Can be used to ram. -Shield ship - model has 2 armored'wings' that unfold to protect ships on either side. Shield ship very vulnerable from the sides/back. -Gremlin - ship that emits a 'sleep wave' (EM pulse) to disable all nearby vessels, including the Gremlin. Allows time for reinforcements to arrive. -Extra Armor Plating - modchip, increases DEF & decreases speed. *************************** The Reavers (Forgers)- the 'mailed fist' of the Fireplate fleet total offensive -orbital bombardment - looking for ideas to develop this concept, as this will be WH's first foray into planetary interaction -low DEF fighters -Berserker squadrons - peashooter wpns but can 'fire' themselves (1,2,or 3 at a time - 3 total fighters) into anything in a 180d turn arc. -Lancet Shuttles (tokens that can ram; they're treated like missiles but only do 4 marks of dmg)-different from missiles in that you don't need a launcher & they begin game in play -reciprocator battery (autofires back at attackers up to ?12"? ) -cluster ships-model breaks apart or multiple models to swap out (TOS uses Icarus-type dials to track hits instead of sliders) -Metallurgical Transmogrifier- weapon modchip, fires a glob of molten metal; when used successfully it permanently disables one weapon (random, roll a die or something-autofire turret may be disabled this way) on enemy ship and causes 2 damage. OK, bashers: I have some models worked out, but not all, and I would LOVE to see what you all can come up with as 1) this project is a big one and if I do it by myself it'll take for-frickin-ever and 2) I know some of you lurkers and others want to get into bashing so here's your chance! We'll be needing all things steampunk-y: textures for iron, steel, brass, leather, wood; public domain (or better yet, original) images we can use for the ships, TOS's, stands, and bases. So far, I have ideas for the ships/tokens/etc. described above, plus a carrier, a battleship, and a semaphore ship (will do something to fight order loss or give extra orders in a NOL game). I still need to: - work out exactly how the ice armor will work - settle on model designs, keeping in mind that some of the ships will incorporate transparencies (for the ice) - redesign the ship TOS units, bases, and possibly the stands. I want to keep the same basic layout for all of them, but I want to round off the ends of the ship bases and completely retexture the TOS units in a steampunk style (I do already have a design for a slider that doesn't tilt to the left) Please please please pm me if you have any ideas or want to help with any of these things, even if all you can do is find me a good, public domain, regular brass texture (or whatever). |

...and it's fine if you have a more scenario - specific idea-- the orbital bombardment, for instance, would pretty much be useless outside a planet defense game. |

Check out you might find the metal textures you need. I'm trying to wrap my head around what exactly you intend to do. Its late though and I'm not especially sharp after a very long day. |
