Not "first" - the "fist", aka encircled clenched hand on the big double doors. It was nice, crisp and clean - well done!

Oh, well, I downloaded a pic, blew it up and cut it out and used it as a template for some cardstock. Im planning on putting a few more small ones on the facade as well as some imperial aquillas.

School is finally winding down, so I have been able to put in a little time on the fortress. Got the first floor facade built and started on the second floor.


The Aquilla over the door turned out very good, and should really pop when I paint it stone.


Added some fists on the ribbing to put a little texture on the otherwise bland face. Should be subtle once painted.


And finally, construction on the second floor has begun.


Once I started on the second floor I discovered I had made the first floor crenelations too tall. Rookie mistake, but easily fixed. Will be working on that problem before I start the facade of the second floor.

Slightly breaking from the theme of this thread, but this project was turning out so well, I wanted to share. I have a friend who has a necron army and has commissioned my to paint his Night Scythes. So without further ado, here is what i've accomplished thus far. There are four in all.

Having just aquired a new Badger Patriot 105 airbrush, I got tons of practice with this project.

This is my first attempt at airbrushing OSL, and airbrushing in general really... It turned out fairly well, and was fun to do. And only 7 colors!

Have also completed the second one. The OSL cam out a bit more subtle and I think looks better. Together they look really well. I can't wait to see all four on the table at once.

Very nice! I like the glow you added around the 'lit' areas! I really need to get some of those fliers for my Necron army!

They are extremely efficient. This guy usually uses two at a time, but with the ability to drop and pickup on the zoom, and being so small they can maneuver without leaving the table, they are very difficult to get rid of.

Nice job - the airbrushing really makes the glow stand out!

(Is just me, or do those Night Scythes look like they use comms sockets for drives? - Not only are they fast and manoueverable, when docked they double as high-bandwith comms hubs!!!)

damn! makes me want to go back to playing WH40K!

You know, those holes on the top make no sense to me. The entire ship is enclosed, but apparently the topside of the intake vents needs airing out...

Well, this will complete the updates for this commission. Finally finished all four, including magnetizing the teleport arrays and deathrays for conversions. Hope this meets everyones expectations.

This was a fun project. I really don't care for commissions in general, as I tend to not have my heart in it, but I had been wanting to paint some of these for a while, so it went very well. Keep an eye out. You never know what I will be posting next.

Quick update. Been doing a little engineering and have come up with working bulkhead doors. Still a work in progress, many details to add, but the mechanics are done. Hope it meets with approval.

It seems simple, but many layers. I have to make a second one, so I will try to get a few shots of the layering as I go. Had to figure it out as I went, so didn't even think of taking pics. More to come.

I like the layers. Are you intending to spraypaint it for color?

Oh sure, Ill be airbrushing the whole build once its done. Texture paint for the walls and straght paint for the doors.

Here's a little tutorial on how I made the sliding bulkhead doors.

Materials:
.5mm plasticard
1mm plasticard
2mm plasticard
Sharp knife
Razor Saw (not necessary, but makes it easier to cut the 2mm)
Short sewing pin with ball head
Tacky Glue (pva or elmers will work, I find tacky drys faster and is easier to manipulate)
Super Glue
Clippers
Pencil
Ruler

First up the .5mm plasticard


I used this to make the door. I cut the main door and added details using this, comprising 3 layers.



Next, the 2mm plasticard


I cut this into strips to make the bracing guides of the door frame.


I then used the .5mm plasticard to create a built in locking mechanism that rounded out the door frame, and layerd it to even up to the rest of the frame.


The door should slot into the frame like so.


The 1mm plasticard is the final piece


I used the 1mm plasticard to make the enclosure for the frame.


I cut the door hole to match the existing hole


Then I lined up the slot for the slide mechanism


Then I inserted the pin


Once inserted, I cut the pin with my handy clippers. They left a little nub of the pin sticking out the back, which is very handy.


Put a drop of glue on the expose pin in the back to secure it.
Line up the door casing and use the exposed pin to mark the top and bottom of the slide on the foamboard.


Use your knife and ruler to cut out the line, then use the pencil to open the line up a bit.


Finally glue the casing with door attached onto the frame.


On all the gluing, keep it light. Thats why I like tacky glue. It doesn't take much and spreads out under pressure. Especially on the final step. You don't want to get glue on the door itself when you install the casing. It would suck to glue the door in place after all this work.

Once done, the pin will have a tight hold. Slide it a few time to create enough slack for easy operation, and you're done.

Hope this has been useful and not too long winded.

Back with a bit more. Got the upper level facade done.

Client is fond of the Third Company, so a stylized III in the middle seemed necessary.

Finally decided to get myself a good Blood Bowl team. So to kick this thread off, I present Warlords female dwarf Blood Bowl Team, the Sister Sledgehammers!



I saw these babies after trolling Impact and several other less notable Blood Bowl third party sites. My wife told me I should get a female team so when I beat an opponent I can inform them they got beat by gurls... I had to concur with that awesome bit of trite... So I ordered them. Very good company. They arrived about a week later. Coming from England, that's pretty good time I think. Anyway, I got them cleaned up, not a lot of flash, but they are all metal, so little pokey bits and some hard to see mold lines that invariably stand out once paint is applied.
I happened to have a small roll of textured cobblestone that I picked up after Christmas and thought that would be great basing for a dwarf team. So to get things rolling, here are the Gold City Dwarfettes, based and ready to be painted.



I am going to be trying out some flesh techniques with my airbrush on these, and wow, do they have a lot of flesh to work with... As usual, I hope this thread meets with approval, and CC is welcome.

LOL! The notorious Sister Sledgehammers play a demonstration game at the citadel of those fanatical warrior-monks, the Dark Angels!!! What will the Emperor think when he hears about that?

Aw, now thats an idea... I have been trying to figure out a good idea for a BB pitch. A nice cobblestone pitch on the Rock with a great big DA winged sword in the middle? Or maybe a banner draped on a bleacher as a sponsor.. Would be interesting.

Been a while since I have been able to do anything with this project. Have finally completed the build of the central portion of this monstrous fortress. I decided that the main floor was far to large for a display, so I have created add on panels to make the first floor into two.
First the panel.


Then the panel installed.


Then I added a catwalk to join the two installed


And from the front, you can see there is still a lot of room to maneuver large vehicles like Land Raiders or even Storm Talons. Not sure about Ravens as I don't have one, but I believe that can fit as well.


Created stairs to lead up to the bulkhead doors. The doors actually socket into the stairs. Also added grated pathways and some wall textures and piping.




Well, that is all for today. This portion of the beast is ready to be painted. I'm waiting for a nice dry day to spray my texture paint on the front, then nothing will be holding back my airbrush.
