I posted some WIP pics of the middle deck. As it says in the captions, I haven't assembled all the sections together or based it yet, but all the sections are done and they are laid out as they will be glued down.

Take a look at the engine room shots, especially this one. I really like how the engine room came out. (Yes, there are two turbines instead of the one on a Firefly - the ship is bigger!)

I hope that my ship looks that good when I get the time to bring the part together. Cant wait to see more.

Looks like you've been making some great progress, robby! That's some ship you're building there...

The two turbines for 4 engines looks a little strange, especially considering how the turbines seem to feed directly into the middle engines. What if you moved the turbines out a little, and fed them into the panel between the two engines (i.e. where your "widgets" are now). seems like a more symmetrical setup...

Don't think of them as 4 different engines; its really all one big unit. I'm going to kitbash a single, long, big thruster unit to mount on the back of all four, rather than four (or eight, actually) individual little ones.

What I've got planned for the outer two reactors is to put some greeblies in them, and then make panels that can be opened over them (or rather, over the indented part of them). Of course, plans change. I also am going to add some bits and pieces onto the turbines themselves, to show hatches that could be opened (a la Firefly's), and other stuff.

I need to pop in Out of Gas or another episode with some good footage of the engine room and do a scan through to see what other kind of props to put in there. Definitely going to use a hammock from the Maiden, and probably some of Mel's cabinets and such. There are some other FL:R props (pipes, the square wall unit that looks like a safe) that I want to add as well.

That thing is enormous, man. And it's lookin' so clean! 43" of gigantic geeky gaming goodness!

I just finished cutting the foamcore for it. It really is much bigger in person than in the schematics. As we were watching Alias and I was dry fitting all the sections, my wife again reiterated her question, "Where are you going to put it?" Three times actually, I think.

Of course, she just got three new bags/purses today - mail order, no less - so its not like she has a leg to stand on.


Hopefully tomorrow I get it mounted. I finished the exterior panels, so once its mounted I'll get those on and be done with the structure. Now I'm planning the shuttles. Can't forget the shuttles.
