I think I got the rest of my supplies some time last week including a cutting matt, steel straight-edge, extendable Xacto, and 4 types of glue. I will post about my glue experiences in the future and show the horrible first pieces I constructed. I enjoyed listening to Denny's Canadian accent as well as Tool's "Schism" as I built.

Until I can get the boards and review Harry's layouts to align mine with his, I am using magnets to hold down the ground tiles on an IKEA metal board(?). I am also using the magnets to assist in holding pieces together while they dry.

A lot of people find painting miniatures to be relaxing; I don't. It's very frustrating and nerve-racking. I enjoy cutting out the paper parts though and do find this relaxing. Putting them together is another story and is a mixture of pleasure and pain. There are some real fiddly bits. I am holding off on building construction until Harry can reveal the building resizes.

Below are crappy cell phone pictures from our 1st and 2nd games on the Starro board since it was completed. My Brotherhood of (Evil) Mutants won the first round, but Harry's 300 pt Constructed team easily won the second game.

Yes, I guess "the victor" does not explain it. I need the help of the guy pictured to surpass his paper-terrain building skills and embark upon 27+ square feet of city.

I think I will post a totally finished board in a new thread and just put any more pictures/posts here.

I think I will have 2 2'x3' sections done by the end of Spring Break easily. This was designed so that it could mesh up with Harry's 2'x3' board. The next part I am making will further adjoin with it and will include train tracks. On the other side of them will be the cliched bad part of town.

Harry taught me a couple of new tricks over the weekend on building construction which I will put to use, including pre-edging. These builds are semi-edged (because of my lack of patience/attention span).

First, the results of my first attempts at paper terrain construction:



This was using a Scotch Scrapbooker's Glue with 2-Way Applicator glue stick, which I have abandoned in favor of the Office Depot glue pen (#576-971), which is not as good as Elmer's No Wrinkle, which Harry pointed me to and I have now adopted.







The buildings are all resized to 6 inches or 7.5 inches. I chopped up the beige brick building in Photoshop to get single floors. I am enjoying playing with layers in PS and made the long window that runs the length of one of the 6 inchers. Also, you can see my straight "clean" street sections, which don't actually match any of the other sections because all the cracks, trash, drains, manhole covers, etc have been Photoshopped out.

Round trash cans, oil drums, and wheels for the van(s) are killing me! Also the MDF is too short, leaving one row of squares overhanging by maybe 1-2 cm.

I am really enjoying this though since the results are almost immediate. Harry was mentioning painting 10 coats on a figure to achieve the right color (which it was), but me? I start painting the next color 3 minutes after painting the other color.

My favorite pieces are the vending machines! But I want to get some Coke, 7-Up, etc ones in as well.

Finally, for now, in my new PDFs created in Photoshop I have taken out the piracy warning/symbol key to conserve ink, and added in additional vending machines, crates, and other props to conserve cardstock.
