I love the look of this game, however if I go back to playing a game that needs a 4X6 table to hold everything then I'm going to eat a gun! so i was wondering how difficult would it be to construct the models if they were printed roughly half the standard size? are there any small parts that would become too difficult or small text that would become unreadable? note" A half scale game would only require a 15 inch by 20 inch playing space! |

You can play Wormhole on a kitchen table or a fold up card table you have enough space for a good evenings worth of game. All but the largest point battles would play out fine. (ie. 3x4, 3x3, 3x5) And I've played more than a few play tests in a 2x3 area. The 4x6 was just the defacto sized matte that comes with Uncharted Space, which is why it is used as an example. If you want to play on a 15in by 20in space then you might as well just make counters and not bother constructing the ships. The time it would take and some of the work to make the 2 bigger ships less fiddly may no be worth the time investment. Plus trying to maneuver a large fleet on that small and area could be tedium ad nausium. ~Floyd |

I made up some half scale Frigates, While I used my heavy stock for these ones i think i will switch to a lighter stock for the more complex ships. I also tried both styles of edging to see what i liked best, I'm still not sure. |

If trying a Convoy Carrier at half size why not just cut the tabs off the side walls and laminate a sheet of foamcore between the upper and lower decks to glue it to? I am doing the same thing with the next carrier I build (at standard scale) because I had too much trouble getting the tabs to hold good enough while drying last time. I checked the foamcore I use and two sheets is only about a 1/16th of an inch shorter than the walls are now, I could get some thicker foamcore but figured I would just trim the wall that much when I took the tabs off. I plan to print a second copy of the top and bottom decks on standard (24lb) paper and use it as a guide when cutting the foamcore for the internal structure. After glueing the two together I'll use scap cardstock to trim around them before I place it between the two decks so I can get a good bond with the wall. Richard |
