Greetings and welcome all you newly indoctrinated Wormhole gamers! In this section I'll post images my builds, tips and or ideas on (hopefully) making the most out of your Wormhole builds. I've got something in the works for Squadron Mods (ie. Ace Pilots). I've got some alternate Edging techniques to help make your ships visually 'POP' on the space (battle) field. Also some easy ways to increase the visual look of complexity of the already fantastic looking ships. (ie. Particle Bow & Covettes). (Nothing terribly profound just some alternatives I've found I liked and you might too.) And please share your own ideas and techniques as I, like you, love learning new ideas and approaches. Here are a few images of some of the various assets from Wormhole I've built. The Hammer Head Battle Cruiser has a build time listed because during Beta we were trying to get a feel for the amount of time it would take to create all the various items. So this was my 1st build of what was to be the final Hammer Head design. Keep in mind I am a bit slow and meticulous on my assembly. I can do them in around 45-50 minutes now. Some things you might notice about the ship builds is that I used Matte Board instead of foam core for the bases. It was a matter of personal preference I like its rigidity and lower height of the basing over foamcore. It also allowed me to edge(with Colored Sharpies ) all my bases with the Faction color and I think it conveys that "in Virtual Space" theme. And it really makes the ships POP on the black space field mat. Incidentally the price of Matte board is comparable to the current black foam core prices in the US. You can pick matte board up at your local craft stores (Pat Catans, Michaels and Hobby Lobby in my area. Or anywhere they sell picture framing materials. |

I'm a fan of those Matteboard bases you've worked up. If I ever get around to building anymore ships, I may just pinch that idea! |

I certainly like the mat board idea for the bases. I was thinking along the same lines for when I start my builds. I look forward to seeing your additional tips and ideas. -Audrey |

I really like the look of Floyds basing (and his builds are amazing of course). The reason I stuck with foamcore in the official promos was the general availability and cost of that medium vs matteboard. Another issue that came up was "graspability", for me at least I found it much easier to grab the foamcore bases for movement. I think the weight of the two materials is roughly the same though. |

The Particle Bow is a powerful and deadly foe amongst the predators swimming in the inky black void of space. And being the simplest to build, I thought this would be a nice place to start 'modding' a little depth into the basic single 2d plane. Particle Bow variations. - additional depth added - rear (Vertical) Tail fin added What the ideas illustrated below do is add a degree of separation by overlaying the upper armor plating and side fins over the central power unit, tail and engines of the superstructure giving illusion of a more complex geometry with a little addition work. Here are the 2 examples of what you could do. The problem with the one on the right is that the 2 nose pieces as visibly separated. And I never addressed it. My intention was to build a front plate so that it would appear to be a full 3d structure. A simpler approach would be to, either; 1.Glue it directly to the one above, or 2. Remove it. And here is basically what I did to make the 2 versions above. The assembly sheet above was condensed to show you the additional cuts and folds. I printed the Particle Bows as provided and made the modifications shown above. (ie. Everything is still double layered). To make the Vertical tail assembly. Just cut the tail section off an extra Particle Bow and cut a grove in the center of it, so that it will slide over the horizontal tail piece of a finished Particle Bow. It all takes very minimal work. I hope this small modification provides you with food for thought and gets those creative juices flowing. Again clean smart builds which are nice captured and presented. You are becoming the instruction king my Fl0ydski. On that note I have Pshoped my command tray and fighter tray to be one piece and am having it printed out on A3 (about double letter wide). This mean I will not having any lining up troubles when I spray glue them.... now that has got me thinking maybe I can get it printed onto A3 sticky paper (don't know if they have it but I just about to go and ask). Hey Ab that sounds great. Let me know how that works out for you. I don't know if I can (easily)get access to larger sheets of sticker paper. But I did print my command tray bases on Tabloid Extra and 12x18 sheets on our Laser. So no extra cutting and gluing for me either. ~Floyd |

The Control Corvette is one of the Multi-role vessels in Wormhole. With its special abilities it can run point on both Defensive and Offensive maneuvers. And with a decent Defense score (2nd best in the game) it can shrug off a good number of hits and stick around long enough to be a real pain in your enemies side. Control Corvette variations - additional depth added to the central command tower - edging this ship, stem and data cubbie the the faction colors actually makes it visually more interesting(imo). The main control tower structure was cut and mounted on Matte Board which is about a shade thicker than 1/16th of an inch (or about 2.5mm thick) You can then edge it with a dark grey or black marker then glue down on top of the mounted Corvette model. Or (see optional below). The other smaller top pieces are just printed on card stock and cut out, edged and placed on top of that. To give it even a little more depth. And here is where I stopped. But I have the intention of adding a small round sphere (a bead maybe) for the spherical Communications Array sitting just above and to the back of the central command tower. A vertical engine tail fin will be added to the stern (see Particle Bow above) and maybe a double thick structure at the bow. OPTIONAL: Note the optional parts (ie. the front & side viewing windows). I cut these out of an extra set of the side panels of the Corveyt's wings(?). ~Floyd |
