If I remember properly - never a given - the software that Mel uses (CubeCart, I think its called) has two levels, a freebie level and a paid level. I don't recall the exact difference (advertising that appears, maybe), but I'm pretty sure its not functionality levels.

However, (and again, if I recall properly) Mel's version has a lot of custom modifications done to his, so judging his store as an example of an out of the box store probably isn't accurate.

One of the suckiest things about the new store, and all of this shared item functionality that people (including me) want is that you have to convert RPGNow records into the new store records to handle it - and from what I'm told, vendor access to RPGNow data, well, sucks.

I know it's duplication of effort, but one thing that *can* be done as a form of legitimate sharing...

Show what you've done (via pictures, plain diagrams, etc.) and describe how you did it. Other people might be able to produce the same, or a similar result, by following the same process you went through.

It's nowhere near as efficient as sharing the pieces themselves, and it means several people are duplicating the same effort...but it's legitimate, and available now.

How do people feel about my earlier suggestion - just donate mods to Denny, who can then sell them to the rest of us at a low price (enough to cover his overhead, and protect his IP).

Who wouldn't want to pay a buck or two (or five?) to get diagonal walls for CD?

Sure, you wouldn't get as many freebies, but at least it'd be better than the current situation...
