This may have been discussed elsewhere, but has WWG considered the possibility of Pirates-style plastic card products? You could make terrain with jigsaw-style tabbed edges. The small scale of the Pirates ships (and Star Wars and all the other things like this I've seen) have necessitated tiny, easy to break tabs - but that wouldn't be the case for gaming terrain (except when building props that only have to be built once anyway). If my thinking is correct here, you could flat-pack quite a lot of terrain and props in a pretty compact box. Following the example of the build n play games, you could flex the material for curved walls etc. |

Plasticard was researched early on (and in previous projects) but it's too cost prohibitive, surprisingly brittle (especially larger format pieces) and in some cases doesn't hold up well to scratching. Edging is also a factor, since our high density punchboard is effectively pre-edged due to the shade we were able to get. The punchboard we are using is surprisingly strong and I have little doubt at this point that people who take care of it will have it in their collection for a long time. |
