As far as what WWG is currently doing with papercraft terrain it seem most of the things are geared towards full 3D structures. And that's fine, for some people. However for people like me it's an investment of time I can't usually afford and actually quite a hassle at times - assembly, storage, disassembly. I've seen recently an assembled Lair of the Dragon God, the old one, not the TLX version. Looks just great on the tabletop. Quick to build. Very clear for playing. Had a very good texturing job. Stores away nicely. It got me thinking... Will WWG ever return to a 2.5D format of products? |

Not sure WWG needs to, as the TerrainLinx sets can effectively do 2.5D just by building less walls (put up a couple of posts, drop in the door you want - bingo 2.5D TLX). What TLX doesn't really address is the quick build space. WWG's SwiftScenics sets provide fast bulk buildings but not the sort of ground terrain you're talking about. For quick build gaming space WWG has a strong focus on its physical TerraClips line at that level of construction, so not sure we'll see much if anything beyond the SwiftScenics. (Of course, lots of demand for the SwiftScenics sets might encourage WWG to expand that line even further). What could be useful in the print and build space is quick construct ground tiles and TLX adapters to support TLX walls/doors without requiring the full TLX anchor/post construction. I think someone played round with something like that a while ago (before Lair of the Dragon God went TLX) but it's eluding my search-fu. |

Sorry, but I strongly disagree about TLX being viable for good 2.5D builds for two reasons: - The tiles are essentially all 3x3, 3x6 or 6x6 inches, this makes for boring layouts, one of the huge benefits of 2.5D is the ease of including complex shaped tiles. - As far as I have seen the texturing work on TLX tiles is toned down, in that there is very little variety in the decorations on a tile, again something that works very well with 2.5D. |

Right. I understand what you're referring to now. The old DungeonLinx format uses floor pieces to quickly and dynamically define the space and the 2.5D elements to help it pop-up a bit from the table. TLX on the other hand is more about tiles being a broad tabletop and using the 3D elements to define the space within which the action happens. TLX creates more detailed spaces and allows (even encourages) three dimensional action, but is far more work (in both prep and assembly) and gets fiddly to play in if you want narrow spaces. The 2.5D format gives a far quicker return on effort, more open play spaces and could be extended much faster. (You can still get the old Dungeonlinx set (at the old pricing) on the Paizo store (see ).) FYI, the tiles from TLX sets (or any other set for that matter) can be used to create add-ons for the old DungeonLinx by cutting the pieces you want and sticking them direct to foamcore. The best for this are older sets from the or ranges like , or TLX sets which include anchor-less tiles (personally, I wish every TLX tile had an anchor-less version - they'd be even more useful) like and . |
