Can't hurt to ask, right?

What I love about WWG products are the 3D props. I like the level of interactivity it gives me during play, as well as adding some visual atmosphere. But I don't understand the interest in 3D walls and such. What a major hassle to set up and tear down. That seems fine for static dioramas, but actual play? What's next, fibre-optic cameras glued to my minatures head so I can see exactly what my character sees?

I'm way off topic now, sorry. I've been keeping an eye on dungeon tiles, and I think they have some promise. I just can't tell where these guys are going because they have no forum. So I guess my question is: is there any possiblity that WWG might create a 2D (gawd forbid), companion product line that allows rapid dungeon assembly and a platform on which to utilze the 3D props? Something perhaps more flexible than what I'm seeing at Skeleton Key Games. These things look to be perfect for printing and spray-adhesive to thin balsa wood. Heck, you could even double-side 'em then. The 6x6" strategy is interesting, but I would also like to see 3x3" tiles.

Hey it’s all good Arthur. It’s actually funny that you mention this because for some time now I've been deep in thought about this whole thing.

Let’s be clear here...I will NEVER stop making full on 3-D walls and props. However, I have been considering creating an alternate line of 2-D top down products for people like you. There are some good motivating factors for me to pursue this line and its a 98% certainty at this point. I’m thinking that for every release there will be an alternative product of top down wall sections for those who want it.

Once again this all comes down to time. Now that I have Paul on board getting things like this done won't be such an impossibility. Stay tuned

As one of the most vociferous objecters to the 2D Altar freebie I actually would be interested in seeing some samples of this, Denny, now that I am more mentally prepared than I was with the Altar teaser in it's 2D form - I have the Skeleton Key packs, very clean and crisp designs, and I look forward to seeing more. I also have all the releases from 0onegames (yes, it was confusing to me at first as well - it's the number '0' followed by the word 'one'), they do the most kickass set of 'dropdown' floorplans I've ever seen, virtually 3D in appearance with lighting effects and everything. Arthur (and possibly Denny), you need to check them out.

If yours are like that, Denny, and released along with the 3D stuff and not instead of it then I would be very interested in seeing it - however, you have GOT to lose that magic-marker gridline effect that was on the altar, more than anything else that was horrible. Putting a grid on the floor is cool, it's pretty justifiable, but drawing it all over the altar like that? Not recommended, the 'above floor' objects should be on top of the grid to enhance the effect.

It was nice to see this thought more warmly received than it could have been! I've hopped over to the 01 Games site, and I admit, their floor plans are visually stunning. But here's why I would never be able to use them. The artist presumes I have no 3D props. I don't want a 2D product that already has doors, gold spiders, beds, tables, etc. stamped into the room. The Skeleton Key product is much better for me in this regard, although the Crypt of Blood product forces me to have crypts whether I want them or not. This is where I would choose to use a WWG 3D crypt prop(s) and put them where I wanted (if at all).

These artists need to think more modular, with tiles that are reusable. Give me 2D cutouts for doors, and I'll put them where I want. Give me various sized water pools, acid pits, traps, and again, I'll put them where I want; don't stamp them into the room!

Denny, I hope you've had a chance to see the Skeleton Key product. While not perfectly reusable, it's the closest thing to what I consider modular. Also, I'm not too fond of 01 Games' forced perspective walls; just something about them feels odd.

I know what you mean, Arthur - you want something like the old Dungeon Floorplans GW put out while they still supported rpgs, and accessories that you can cut out and place anywhere. Right now online I think Dollar Dungeons is the closest to 'generic' although their stuff is nowhere near as crisp as Skeleton Key - I would agree that if Denny leans more towards the SK approach he could be on to something, but perhaps without limiting himself to the tile format. In fact, what you are talking about, now that I think about it a little more - couldn't you do this already using the masterboard pieces and simply cutting them out to the shape you desire? That way you have clean (uncluttered) floors that you can place the props on; just ignore the walls.

So I guess what we need the most are 2D doors and walls (speaking of doors, Denny, did you see my comments in the general folder about 'bigger' doors and other issues? It drew no comments which surprised me a little), although I do like the idea of being able to get a flat, top-down version of the existing 3D sets.

3D will always be my preferred format for WW, but I must agree (perhaps grudgingly) that for speedy and spontaneous play, 2D is a lot easier to set up and store.

oOnegames has the right idea graphically. Their designs are “pretty” but offer some design and layout limitations for the user. The ideal product here would be 2-D graphically impressive, modular corridor and room sections with 2-D tiles and additional 3-D props. So many ideas so little time. This is something I will seriously look into for future product. This may coincide with other releases.

Denny, it was in the General Chat area under a topic called 'Interiorworks Doors & other stuff '. I would really be interested in any comments you have on it.

Regarding the 2D stuff, are you suggesting something that would LOOK like the 0one floorplans but with 'moveable' doors, windows, furniture and other props? That would be very cool; as you and Arthur say their biggest problem is that everything is basically fixed in place, there is not much flexibility. Same goes for the Skeleton Key Crypt Of Blood set, no flexibility as to the placement of the coffins themselves, only the tiles they are on.

Yes, it would be a hybrid 2-D, 3-D product with flat floor plans and 3-D props. I should say "it will be" as Im almost certain now that I will pursue this in the near future. Thanks again everyone for your thoughts on the subject!

Just something to consider...if at all possible, you might want to look into some means by which the 2D floorplans can be "tied into" the 3D wall/door/object elements.  I'm not exactly sure what would be the proper approach at this point, but I'm thinking something like...


2D floor has a somewhat perspective-looking wall already, but intermixed in the artwork that comprises the walls are a few dark lines, ideally blended in with the rest of the setting, but spaced in just the right places.

3D wall has an optional, cut-offable series of tabs.  If desired, 2D floor's "dark lines" are the slots into which the 3D wall's tabs can be inserted.

Not sure if I'm coming across clear on this...I'll whip up an example bit and ship it to Denny.

I'd suggest being wary of crossing into the 2d market. There's already competition there, whereas WorldWorks is pretty much #1 in the 3d paper space.

Myself, I'm using my MK figures (1.5" square scale), and I'm checking out WorldWorks' for doing buildings and props.  I've got WizKids' 3d Dungeons stuff, so I've got plenty of 3d dungoen basics (sort of, they have no wall packs, so I'm running out).

What most people might like is simple 2d maps, and add-on props in 2d or 3d for things like coffins, pools, etc.  I think SK is trying to cover both bases with their scene-specific tiles.  It may be just a matter of time before they figure that out. (arthur's transparency idea might do the trick).

But in support of 2d, 3d, or other vendor's product, I think having a props set would be valuable in supporting that.  Basically, give me a set I can buy that gets me all the cool 3d props at the right scale (1 inch and/or 1.5") and it'll work with whatever map product I use.

Arthur, you might want to check out 0one games again, they appear to now have a product that allows you to put the Alter, Door, etc where ever you want. Since you have 3D terrain already, you could just print out the blank floor with out adding the bits, and put in your 3D stuff...

I am Looking forward to WWG styled tile maps and props. they will undoubtedly do this genre justice.

I always liked SpaceHulk, Space Crusades, HeroQuest, Hybrid and now Doom the Board Game. And would love to have custome sets to use for these(and other games). And with 3d Props it would make it that much better. i might even pull out SJ's Fraged and play it again with something like this.

Dunjini is very cool. I just checked it out and downloaded the demo. It is a bit slow on my machine(1.2ghz). But has some very nice graphic sets.

I particularly like the Campaign Graphics set. I am going to pick it up as soon as I can free up some more funds. I already have allocated the necessaries for WWG:SiegeWorks, Maiden & GW. (Christmas is coming and my son has a BIG list).

I know that I'll get slapped for this suggestion but here goes....

I was looking at the Dunjini demo and the thought that came to me was a WWG pak for the program.

Yes I understand that we would all have to buy the base product but the idea of having Denny's work in a programme that we can use to create nearly any type of map or battle map is so mouth-watering yummy!!

Think about it - Denny would only ( only!! I'm taking the piss just a bit here) have to create the art and a simple demo to show us what its used for and a couple of options.

This may not be an option with the people of Dunjini but it's just an idea.

I have to agree here. As a gamer, I use Dundjini and the now defunct Gridsmith to build all my maps. Denny's stuff is used for all the props: Doors, tables, altars, columns, etc.

This gives me a quick way to design and play (just slap a complete room down on the table when players enter) while maintaining the yummy 3D goodness by placing a few props from Cave Works, Dungeon Works, Gothic, or Interior.

As an aside, this is why I haven't purchased anything since the last interior works - The recent sets are great, but no props I can really use.

So yes, an art pack from WorldWorks would be great (I'd buy) - but not as great as prop-packs IMHO.

This should be interesting! I have all the Skeleton Key tiles, some 0One and others as well...

I use them for various events and cons. Some even work well with 3D props/buildings.

I would imagine that Denny could kick these out much faster than 3D sets but with his reknowned skills as an artists they would look just as good.

Denny is soon going to run out of fingers to put in all these pies he's baking...
