I think its a great idea. Especially for segments that don't get covered as much by ye olde standard minis.

Howdy all:

It's awesome to hear of the (at least smattering of) interest in the paper standees. Before this thread dies, let me put in my two cents for the basics I would like to see come from Worldworks.

Creatures pack: honestly, just the basic high fantasy monsters/creatures, including three "levels" of greenskins, some skeletons, wolves, bandits, and the like. This set would be especially great for beginners, but still beneficial for those of us that can always use more fodder in our games...

NPC pack: Andorax already mentioned the few NPCs previously included in some of the sets (I'll have to get right on those), but NPCs are always useful. Perhaps some peasants, nobles, priests, workers, guards, urchins, dockmen and whatnot.

Adventurers pack: Even though, most likely, any mini gamer will first focus on buying and painting on the PCs before all else, there is always need for variety and inspiration when it comes to character models. An adventurer pack could offer some cool options to players and GMs alike, which is always a plus.

Anyway, that's my rant and a few ideas. If you read this and like it, please put up a post in support. Minis, although cool, can get expensive, and this may be an economic (and more versatile by far) product if it is made.

I LOVE paper standees personally. Found some very very nice ones free online, but the author seems to not be doing anymore (though has a new site mapped out with nothing on it at the moment). If they are of sufficient quality, I will absolutely use them and coming from WWG I have no doubt as to quality. If anyone is interested, I'll try and get some pictures (when I get a new cameera) of some standees I have put together. They turn out very nicely if you take your time with them.

I'm a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge standee fan. I have dozens and dozens of homegrown standees that I use more often than my metals! I can't preach enough about how much I love them... but I will say that gluing them to standard mini bases is a match made in heaven!

I think standees work best when their proportions are similar to those of solid minis. The Steve Jackson and another manufacturer's minis are of 'realistic' scale and proportions, and only really work on the board with the other standees from their lines. Plus, they're not cut-out-friendly, and look out of scale with terrain scaled for solid minis.

I can't wait for more WW minis and for more to be integrated with sets!

I actually have a set of pirate skeletons that I've only finished a couple of. When mounted on standard WH40K slotted round bases (using a couple extra layers of card) they look phenomenal!
