For me would have to be gridless and 1" hex.
Gridless for the Wings of War and 1" hex for the Tumbling dice range.

Hi, With the evident quality of Uncharted Space wouldn't it be nice if WWG made a similar product for air wargames? Can you imagine a gaming surface of this size with fields, woods, rivers, villages, towns???? Drooool!!!!! Anyone in favour? Regards, Wargamer57 |

Well, I am certainly not in a position to promise anything, but I can at least say that it's been considered and discussed. If there is interest, then by all means (everyone) speak up. And let us know what formats (gridless, 1" hex, 1" grid, 1.5" grid, etc.) and scales (1" = 5', 1" = 100', 1" = 1mi., etc.) would work best for your needs. Unlike a space mat, a air wargame mat has to CAREFULLY consider scale. |

Ooooooh great suggestion!! I would like gridless, 1" hex and 1.5" hex ....... but then because of shipping costs, I would much prefer pdf format anyway, so producing all three formats for me wouldn't be too much hassle for Denny  hahahaha

The Mustangs game has a LOT of players around the net. The rules recommend 5" hexes LOL  ........... I reckon 1.5" hexes will be ok since we normally use 1/300 scale planes for Mustangs games anyway.
For WW1 players normally use 1/144 scale minis. |

Well I'm hoping to buy Wings of war as soon as the miniature set arrive at Spain...so I belive is no grid and 1/144 ! - I was looking at them a long time ago...but the jump to cards to models...it's the push that I needed... |

hmm, seems like you would have to take a mean dog fighting altitude and design for that. unless of course you build non descript landscape sans sities. Then have add on tiles ( in hex or whatever) for larger or smaller cities to illustrate changes in altitude. on that train of thought, maybe they are temporary base tiles specifically for the aircraft that changes altitude in question. |

In terms of "altitude" and scale I would personally treat this just as I am "Uncharted Space". Essentially you design a series of mats within that genre which capture different aerial locations. I won't give you the laundry list (have to keep some ideas to myself) but I have several ideas already on how you would address each location visually and from what percieved altitude. |

You will really need to look at the smallest scale of minis that people us in order to maximise the sales. If you scale it to 1/144 as per Wings of War, then the map will look very wrong for the many 1/300 scale players out there. However, if you scale it to 1/300 (or even 1/600) then for the 1/144 scale geezers it would just look like a higher altitude. For the low altitude mats this should also be OK. Most people I know around the web use 1/300 scale for WW2 and Modern, 1/144 scale for WW1. |

I vote 1/144 scale since I'd use it for Wings of War. It might see rpg use once in a while but that would be rare. |
