Well I had similar thoughts and actually did two story bunk-hammocks using rolled up paper as posts. Rather simple and looks quite realistic ... use the backside of one of the ladders for the right wood brown and print on thin paper otherwise you will have problems to roll it up.
Either pre-edge the inside black/brown or use circular bits to cover the ends. I also changed the color of the blankets and put some crumpled up on the hammocks for more realism ... also I made a backside for the hammock nets from the plain one (got rid of the pillow in Photoshop).
If you want I could submit it as kitbash ... but then it is rather simple to do
Otherwise, I would have wasted a handful of cardboard sheets...
