Post subject: | Suggestion for WWG Kits |
Hello All, I was thinking that it would be really great if WWG (especially big kits like Himmelveil Streets and Thoumont's) included plans to build something. Like a kit. This way beginning craftsmen wouldn't feel so overwhelmed and would have a good place to start. Perhaps something they could build onto from there? Personally, I would have liked something like that. My first project is a 4x4 foot table and it's quite a large project. I wanted to add in elements from Thoumont's but frankly I don't know where to start and am a bit overwhelmed with it. I'll be doing what I can with HV Canals and Streets, and then adding buildings later. Just a thought. |

We get this request a lot and it's not something we can easily address. We design our big sets to be open-ended "sandboxes". As such they are not kits as there is no inherent design in them (not even when we're making them). We simply try to include as many options as possible so the end user has the greatest amount of choice. Beyond what we show in the promotional photos and given the inherent limitlessness of a product where you can print out as much as you like of anything, it's really impossible for us to say "You can do THIS" without creating a false sense of limitation. So as you can see, it's a bit of a "catch 22". |

I think it's fair to say that I am not new to cardstock modelling, and have a real bad habit of 'bashing anything I need from existing pieces. However, trying to get my head wrapped around TLX is a daunting prospect, and even I would find such a thing very useful. |

mproteau has been creating some TLX Planner maps of sample builds that go part way to achieving this. I recommend moving this discussion over to the thread for his , where there's a real example that can be used as the basis for working out exactly what's needed for this. |

To weigh in my .02 I tend to be like Ghenghis_Ska in that I have an idea before I start. Even before I buy a set I have an idea of what I want it for but again that is just me. I purchased the planner when I got my first couple of sets for the reason that most want the starter builds, I just thought I would make my own starter builds which actually tend to grow as I write the matching adventure. Perhaps this is where the community can help WWG fit the bill for help with the overwhelming possibilities of the TLX sets as Zenguy suggests. I understand the need for such starter builds to help get the idea but that is where the guides and user builds can really help out new users as it did me. Working with the Mars Station and props also helped me get the hang of edging and gluing. Well I guess it's more of a nickles worth than two cents ![]() -D² |
