so I have been doing robo cutting cutting for business reasons and i needed it to cut thicker stuff in one pass. looking at the caps the thing uses i thought "if i just sanded one of these caps down would more of the blade be revealed? If that worked would the machine still cut well with more blade hitting the paper?" i took sand paper to the blue tip and sanded it until the blade poked out a bit more then the red tip. i never use the blue tip so not much would be lost if it failed. So far it's cutting deeper then it used to however it is not cutting with more force. so it's an improvement but not much of one, I imagine this will really help with materials that almost cut with two passes. the most interesting thing is my old dull blade cuts much better with the sanded tip, I think this extends blade life quite a bit, i wont know for sure until i cut a few hundred more pages but that's how this stuff goes |

Ok wow, the thing has started to cut through my mats, i'm going to hold off with more experimenting until i finish this next job. I use thinner self made mats made from plastic 3 ring binder dividers (i think Denny uses similar). (edit: changed of to off) |

Sounds intriguing...keep us posted on this:) I personally would be worried about how it effects the motors driving the blade and bed...Certainly you are putting a bigger strain on them than design  Guess we shall see just how well built these Silhouette SD's are...Good Luck!

if the machine brakes well then i guess i will just need to do another kick starter and buy a better one this time. i'm looking at higher end cutters already. i would cut off a pinky to own something with a vacuum table that could cut matte board. |

i'm wondering if anyone has tried to score softer plasticard with the machine. not trying to cut all the way through but just enough to make good snaps? |

Isn't there a spring that applies the pressure of the blade to your medium? Perhaps a different spring? |

The latest Silhouette Studio does have a double cut option for thicker material. |

The new ratchet blades actually reveal way more of the blade. My first cut with this thing is gorgeous. |
