I just had an offer to buy me a cutter in exchange for building a couple of rather large boards. So with GSD issues is it better to get a slightly used SD or suck it up and hope we get a fix for the Cameo? Also leads to the question with the SD out of production what is the life span of support for spare blades? |

At some point, compatibility issues will be completely worked out, so either machine will do. The one advantage the SD has over the Cameo is that it works now. Both machines use exactly the same spare blade setup, so as long as the Cameo is around, your SD won't be hurting for blades. I'd actually be more worried about replacing the cutting strip below the blade track, but you should be okay as long as nothing you do cuts all the way through into it. (In other words always use a disposable carrier or the carrier that came with the machine, and your cutting strip will be safe.) |

The Cameo's adjustable blade (you dial in a depth, as opposed to the SD's screwing on a colored cap) plugs into the SD just fine. No worries about blades wearing out... |
