Is there a simple way to use the .studio files in robomaster? It see .GSD and uses all of them just fine, but I have noticed a few sets seem to only have .studio cutfiles such as the Battlepacks. I am using version 1.3 I believe of Robo Master. |

http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/software.aspx Silhouette Studio is capable of driving the following machines: Craft ROBO I, II, III Silhouette-I, Silhouette-II, Silhouette SD, Silhouette Cameo They all share the same base hardware platform--the Silhouettes up to the Cameo are just rebranded Graphtec machines, and the Cameo is a Silhouette exclusive manufactured by Graphtec. I can personally confirm that Silhouette Studio has no problem driving my Graphtec Craft ROBO II. Since Graphtec no longer sells any of the hobbyist-level Craft ROBO machines over here and the Silhouette series are pretty much the go-to machines for hobbyist level print-and-cut jobs, and everything before the Cameo has been discontinued...well, ROBO Master has been effectively and practically superseded by Silhouette Studio. We recommend doing all of your cutting in Studio, even if only because it's the only software controller that's currently free and actively supported by the company. |

Switching to Studio from Robomaster is well worth the upgrade - it seems a WHOLE lot simpler to work with. I've been working up my own .studio files from pdfs that I had in my papermodel collection and it really is pretty simple. The auto-trace function does a good job, and the drawing tools are simple too. So far I've set up and robocut several pages of ship flats from War Artisan (for 'War of 1812' lake war actions) (and glued them together, they look nice on my shelf), and a GeeBee Z air racer from Fiddler's Green (not yet assembled). I did these using the autotrace tool to get the cutlines for the outline of each part, scored the pages by hand, then used those lines to cut the pages. Today I was working on one of the 'Mean Streets' Blocks from The Virtual Armchair General (Block 11, the Jewish neighborhood, with assorted businesses), I copied all the small items (doorway alcoves, signs, skylights, and ventilators) onto two Silhouette-sized pages, and used the autotrace for the small parts, and the drawing tools for the big ones, to cut and score the parts. I'd much rather play with image files than try to cut these things out by hand (I made quick work of the building walls and roofs last Sunday, then set the small parts aside for a week as just too much fiddly handwork - now all the work is just popping them off the carrier sheet. Silhouette for the win!) And I really like that you can save the cutlines and the image into one .studio file (that isn't very much bigger than the image alone), which you can then open in Silhouette Studio to print AND cut using that one file. Studio does not work as nicely as Robomaster did. To many steps to start cutting and does not seem to find marks as well. The .studio destroy Floor 2 from Cliffs seems to work just fine. It does look there was a problem with the .gsd destroyed Floor. |

My machine hasn't had any problems locating reg marks with the latest version of Studio. I did skip using Studio until the most recent version, based on the war stories I missed a lot of problems that way... I admit there are a few steps to do to print and/or cut a model, but I find most are one-click steps, so it isn't the biggest speed waste of the process. I wish it were better at saving the last settings I used, but I haven't been printing stacks of pages at a time like some of you guys (it reminds me of painting figures - if the lead pile is too high i get disheartened, I'd rather do smaller, more manageable amounts). |
