I'm just relating my tale of user error, in the hopes it will prevent someone else from making the same mistake. Recently, I picked up a new set of blades for my cutter. Almost immediately, I was having cutting problems - occasionally the cutter would make a charming crunching noise, and the cuts would be off tremendously. I had been using really dull blades for a long time, and I'd been cranking up the depth on the blades, and double-cutting the pages... It had been doing OK for the most part. New blades arrived, and I foolishly adjusted them to cut as deep as the old ones. 7 is NOT the right values for cutting!!! 3 is enough to slice through 110lb cardstock! I just wasn't thinking. As a troubleshooting step, I ditched the plastic cutting mat and used a sheet of cardstock as the cutting mat. Lo and behold! The blade was cutting through *both sheets*. Ugh. These are the kind of mistakes I make all the time. Dropping the blade depth to 3 made my life all better, and I'm back to being a happy cutter. |
