Post subject: | Cutfiles for The Maiden |
oldschooldm and I have decided to team up and work together on creating cutfiles for The Maiden. Even with 2 of us working on it, it'll be a lot of work. There are a total of 75 files, including transparencies. If we can get 4 or 5 others on here to pitch in, though, it would be a LOT more manageable. If you're interested, (or have already done some of the work and would like to donate to the effort) please reply to this thread and I'll track who's working on which one so we don't duplicate effort. By the way, does anyone know how to make something that looks like a table on these forums? I tried the BBCode suggestions I found on the web, but none of it seems to work on here. Here's a list of the pages when you extract them as files with each page a separate file and who has volunteered to work on which: Page------------------Volunteer--------Status lowerdeck_Page_1-----Ninevah----------Done lowerdeck_Page_2-----Ninevah----------Done lowerdeck_Page_3-----Ninevah----------Done roofing_Page_1-------Ninevah----------Done roofing_Page_2-------Ninevah----------Done roofing_Page_3-------Ninevah----------Done topdeck_Page_1-------Ninevah----------Done topdeck_Page_2-------Ninevah----------Done topdeck_Page_3-------Ninevah----------Done topdeck_Page_4-------Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_1----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_2----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_3----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_4----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_5----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_6----Ninevah----------Done forecastle_Page_7----Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_1---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_2---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_3---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_4---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_5---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_6---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_7---Ninevah----------Done forwardhull_Page_8---Ninevah----------Done hullsides_Page_1-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_2-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_3-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_4-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_5-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_6-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_7-----oldschooldm------Done hullsides_Page_8-----oldschooldm------Done rearhull_Page_1------mproteau---------Done rearhull_Page_2------mproteau---------Done masts_Page_1---------oldschooldm------Done masts_Page_2---------oldschooldm------Done masts_Page_3---------oldschooldm------Done masts_Page_4---------oldschooldm------Done baserigging---------mproteau---------Done cannons-------------mproteau---------Done cargocubes_Page_1---mproteau---------Done cargocubes_Page_2---mproteau---------Done deskchairtrunk------mproteau---------Done extrawalls_Page_1---mproteau---------Done extrawalls_Page_2---mproteau---------Done extrawalls_Page_3---mproteau---------Done extrawalls_Page_4---mproteau---------Done extrawalls_Page_5---mproteau---------Done gangplank-----------mproteau---------Done hammock-------------mproteau---------Done mastheads_Page_1----mproteau---------Done mastheads_Page_2----mproteau---------Done nameplates----------mproteau---------Done sails_Page_01-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_02-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_03-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_04-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_05-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_06-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_07-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_08-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_09-------oldschooldm------Done sails_Page_10-------oldschooldm------Done sterncastle_Page_1--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_2--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_3--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_4--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_5--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_6--mproteau---------Done sterncastle_Page_7--mproteau---------Done bowspritratlines----mproteau---------Done elements------------mproteau---------Done lowerratlines-------mproteau---------Done upperratlines-------mproteau---------Done |

Are you using the WWG kitbash regmarks? Or are you using the largest cutting area available on Letter sized paper? Are you expecting that folks will have to slide the graphics around a bit? Just wondering. |

I really hope you guys finish this. I'd love to finish my Maiden, and I just don't have the time without cut files. I'm rooting for you. ~J Rzasa |

I've decided to "host" the dropbox folder for this joint project. If you contribute, please PM me your email address and I'll add you to it so you can read/write the files as we go along. |

I will take sails-Page-[1-10] and that will probably be the amount of time I can dedicate through the end of this week... |

I'll do the sterncastle tonight. I'm also trying to squeeze in a couple easy pages before I call it a night - I'll do gangplank and all the extrawalls. Update... sterncastle, gangplank and extrawalls are all "done". @oldschool - I PM'ed you with some questions about things I might need to fix up before declaring them 'done' but they're pretty close anyway. You might want to consider making a shared google spreadsheet rather than use the forums for keeping track of a project like this. It'd allow folks an easier mechanism for updating what's being worked on. Alternatively, just drop a "todo.txt" file or something in your dropbox folder. Actually... I can do THAT. There's now a todo.txt file in your dropbox folder ![]() |

Wow. That's 30 out of the 75 pages done already. We're making some good progress. Why don't we just put an Excel file into the Dropbox and track it that way? Hey, it turns out I had already created an Excel file for that! Uploaded. Let me know if you guys need that in a different format/version. |

Ugh. Why did I volunteer to do the Sails? Floppy fabric is a LOT of points... |

I was damn surprised (and happy!) when you did. Those have GOT to be a lot of fiddly work. |

I'm going back over the sterncastle cutfiles and adding optional cutlines for the windows in case someone wants to do transparencies. I totally regret not doing transparent windows on my Maiden! |

We've got only 18 files left to do! And after I finish mine today, that should get us to only 12 left! |

It's a beautiful thing to see something this intricate cut by a robocutter: |

Yes. That is a thing of beauty. The railings and mastheads would likely fit the same category. |

The transparency cutfiles seem like a must have since they improve the look of the ship quite a bit! Any of you planning to build a Maiden with the cutfiles once they are done? |

Post subject: | Re: Cutfiles for The Maiden |
Yes. That's the whole thing that prompted me to start asking around to see if anyone else had already done some of the cutfiles. I was already starting to create my own, but when I reached out to oldschooldm, that triggered some talk about trying to work together on it and see if we could get others to help. I'm playing in a Skull and Shackles campaign and the GM just got assigned out of state for work. He won't be back more often than once a month. I've got some time before we really get to the point where having 1 Maiden for play would be nice, but having 2 or more would REALLY make the piracy fun as all heck. I don't want to build it twice entirely by hand, so I figured I may as well make it easily repeatable. When I've been making cutfiles for the rather intricate pages, I've been printing them and running them through my SD to make sure they'll cut nicely--and keeping the results for my build, too. |

I'll build mine someday (now much sooner than if I'd had to make them all myself...) Masts Page 1&2 done. |

Post subject: | Re: Cutfiles for The Maiden |
It looks like there are only 7 pages left for us to do, so I think we can finish it this week. We still need to review our cutfiles for mistakes. I know we've got at least a couple to fix. And we have to put together some instructions before submitting it. Honestly, if I had been doing this stuff by myself, it would take me another couple of months. oldschooldm and mproteau were creating cutfiles like people possessed. I'm just trying to keep up so I don't look bad. ![]() |

By the way - sorry I have fallen off the wagon on this. It's one of those times where life has decided to get in the way of my free time. You guys are nearing the end of the list! Having someone *use* all the cutfiles *is* really important, so if there's an early adopter who can (a) start building their Maiden, and (b) post some pics along the way would be awesome!!! I'll still gladly plow through all the files and do a sanity check for correctness and completeness when the list is all done. Nice work seeing this through guys! P.S. There's also those Maiden kitbashes that would be cool to do cutfiles for, if they don't already have 'em. I haven't looked at any of them. ![]() |
