That's probably the coolest thing about the whole automated cutting thing. We all have ambitious build ideas in mind but time usually forces us to scale down our scope. If we can offload that job to a machine that does it faster and more efficiently...well, lets just say that we are in for some crazy builds. Kinda like a cardstock terrain Renaissance! ![]() |

Hey Congrats. Thankfully Mel has all shown us how to use ours. Mine sat collecting dust for over a year! |

It is definitely worth the time. I've stopped posting so much because I'm busy making stuff... |

I've also ordered one. Is there a means of getting WWG RoboCraft data files from users that have done the hard work? |

Great layout plan, Deathreaver! I made a layout of the seedy part of town, as I call it, featuring a harbor for the proto tramp streamer I built. That burned up too, but I'm going to start over. My robo cutter arrived, but I haven't taken it out of the shipping box yet. I expect though to be able to rebuild the layout much easier with the machine's help. Now, I just need a stretch of time from all the other things that have cropped up. A huge pecan tree came down in the storm. I have to get that taken care of (might as well have it cut for firewood). Anyway, I am so looking forward to some serious time with the robo. |

Congrats! I think you're gonna dig it. My suggestions would be to do as you mentioned, and read up on how it works, how people are doing things, etc. Mel's site and this one are both great resources for that. Also, I would suggest going ahead and ordering a set of 3 blades (just the blade pins - around $9 each) so you will be ready when one gets dull (or you drop it on the table like I did and the tip breaks off). That way, you'll be set. You're not going to want to go back to the old way of cutting and scoring. Except for some foamcore last night, I haven't lifted a hobby knife or a ruler in a month. You'll soon be retiring to the parlor with the rest of us, sipping 30-year-old single malt scotch and puffing on a premium hand-rolled cigar, reminiscing about the old days when you used to cut/score models by hand. |

No issues there, I set the preference that whenever that device is on it is recognized as belonging to the WinXP side of things and the Mac side ignores it. One bit of weirdness though; I had just started the Silhouette on a cutting job and wanted to check something on my Mac desktop so I clicked on a folder there and the cutter freaked out and chewed up a page of elven pikes. So I think, based on my limited computer knowledge, there is a priority hierarchy setting in Paralells and MacOS and I disrupted the feed to the USB port by switching to MacOS at that point. That's my theory anyways. It continues to work fine if I take the roundabout way of doing things and stay in the WinXP side and go through the network connection to get at files on the Mac side. |

After reading about everyone's experiences with their Silhouettes, I got more and more curious about them... and a little jealous, too. I surfed the Interwebs. I checked on eBay. But, I didn't do anything about it really. Until tonight. I just won a brand-spankin' new Silhoutte SD. (What?! My birthday is in a couple of days; I felt I deserved a present! ![]() Hopefully, I'll have it in the next week or so. I can't wait to get started using it and see what all the hullaballoo is about. |
