That said, I think Himmelveil and TerrainlinX have great potential for wargaming. I can't wait to see what people come up with!

I am looking at getting into paper modelling as an alternative to using just dungeon tiles for my D&D games. I had pondered the idea of doing it a few years ago and got a membership here but I did not have the time to Cut, fold, paste so I never pursued it. Now with the biggest step knocked out and just folding and pasting left I think I would like to start building. I read that these new terrainlinx sets are fully compatible with these automated cutters but is it as simple as opening a program loading a file then running a piece of paper through? I am looking at buying a silhouette SD off ebay is this the model to go for? Is it hard to make replacement carrier sheets? How often do the blades need to be replaced ? Are all WWG sets going to be in the new Terrainlinx format ? Thanks for all and any help, I appreciate it. |

Yes all WWG sets from TLX are going to be Cutter Friendly. You are looking for a Silhouette SD with you search ebay. The Cardstock is the real question as to how long a blade will last - easily 100 sheets maybe 2, 3 or 400 as it all comes down the the quality of the Stock itself and how the paper gain sits. Yes blades are easy to replace. Making Carrier sheets is as easy as spraying adhesive lightly over an extra sheet of cardstock - I find I get four to five changes before touching up the spray. I might get three sprays before "retiring" that sheet (I use bad prints, old projects etc). As for do you need it - do yourself a favour and start by building a number of pieces by hand - understand what you are doing first before letting something else do the job for you. It is a medium/big investment into a "toy" that you may never use after five weeks or so. Know what your going to build - whys and wherefores before cashing out. I have only owned mine for about three months and I think its the bees knees but then I have been doing this since I signed into this forum.... check under my pic. I guess I am saying is make sure you really feel that this is your hobby's path before jumping in - I have about 24 odd Hirst Arts molds that I haven't used in over 6 years due to this.... each is about $30US - so you can see what I am trying to say. BTW I love my Hirst Arts - I just don't have the room to cast, build, paint and store. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

I tried papercraft some 5-6 years ago and also found the cutting, scoring, etc to be too time consuming for my tastes. This time around I picked up a silhouette with the intention of just using it for terrain pieces, but the missus also uses it for scrapbooking and sticker making. I picked up the silhouette-1 model at a local scrapbooking store for $120 new. For WWG stuff I don't believe there's any major difference (unless you decide you want to load the models onto an SD card for mobility, but I don't believe that's part of anybody's workflow). Making your own reusable sheets takes some time, and there's a bit of a learning curve to it. |

I just got my SD this week and finally got a chance to try it out last night. My thoughts on it can be found . To summarize, I think it's great and I'm looking forward to using it to help expand my little paper empire. |

Just bought a Silhouette SD off of ebay, cost me around 200$ with shipping.( From USA to Canada) I will be purchasing the new terrainlinx sets soon to try it out. The only reason I was leaning more towards the Hirst Arts moulds was the dual use for WHFB and other miniature wargaming. I will be using the cardstock models for DnD and Star Wars Saga Edition so I need something gridded.Hirst Arts models were also gridded but nowhere near as customizable in terms of quickly swapping hallways and walls. This new Terrainlinx system and the robocutter was the selling point for me though.Whoever came up with the interchangeable floor section with customizable wall posts system is a mad @$#!%^& genius. |

HA for Wargaming whilst Cardstock for RPG.... weird thought process you have there. Cardstock is much better suited for either but esp. for WGaming as you can knock out lots fast and is strong. HA is a labour of love - smaller number of pieces resulting for equal amount of time. You choice Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Hey ograx, I realize you've already bought your digital cutter (congrats, btw!), but if there's someone else on the fence, asking themselves "should I buy one?", allow me to answer with a picture... I just created the cutting file for this Coins of the Realms set tonight, ran it through the cutter while surfing the web, peeled off the waste when it was done, and sat there stunned. So yeah, I'm still loving my cutter. It's a must-buy for the serious papercraft modeler. |
