Quick newbie question... I just ordered a cutter and I see some mention in the forums about setting the machine to score rather than perforate... How do I do this? I can't find any obvious settings. Or did I misunderstand? |

You have two options for fold lines: 1. Perforating (the standard way, the machine perforates the fold lines) 2. Two-pass cutting When you do two-pass cutting, you're doing it in two cutting passes. The first pass scores the lines to half depth, and the second pass cuts all the way through. Scoring Pass: 1. Go to File>Output Settings>Cutline Settings, then untick the checkboxes for the line colors that say "Dashed Line" next to them. 2. Install the blue blade cap. 3. Feed the sheet and cut the page as normal. At this point, you have a scored page. You're ready to cut the parts out now. Cutting Pass: 1. Go to File>Output Settings>Cutline Settings, then untick the checkboxes for the line colors that say "Solid Cut Line" next to them. 2. Install the yellow or red blade cap, whichever is correct for the stock you're cutting. 3. Feed the sheet and cut the page as normal. At this point, you're finished with the page. To speed things up, do it in batches. Score all of the sheets first, then cut all of the sheets. You'll also want to use the rather than the OEM carrier sheet, as the OEM carrier sheet is very tacky and you're more likely to tear off the parts along score lines while peeling them off. -Mel |

I don't really like perfs myself. They're okay for beta builds or stuff you just want to throw into a game, but when I want something to put on my shelf for display, I machine-score the mountain folds so they'll look nice and clean like the models below: Valley folds are still perforated because as you said, they're bidirectional when it comes to folding. -Mel |
