Hi All, Okay, so I waited a while to post this, but I feel like I have exhausted my options so I want to see if I can get some advice. I'll give the issue first and then some additional background info. Issue: Robo Cutter cannot find the registration marks (Streets of Mayhem TLX). Background: I have had the Silhouette SD since last Christmas. I set it up and had it going with one of my laptops (running Vista), but I don't think I ever got the auto registration mark recognition to work properly. Unfortunately, that was months ago. I put it (and all gaming) aside because of an increased work load. So now, I am trying to get it to work again (from scratch) as I am planning on making a set of tiles for my oldest son for Christmas. I have loaded the software and drivers onto a different laptop (running XP). I have also tried following all of Mel's guides, but to no avail. I will say that when I turn off registration marks, I can line it up pretty well, but that is a pain. I have checked to make sure the red light comes on (it does) and I ran the calibration file with the crosses on it through the machine and it cuts perfectly on those. However, when I load any tile from an actual set, it seems to not be able to find the registration marks. I have loaded the page from both ends, centered each time between the white wheels, but nothing. I manually adjust the blade to be within the "green" spot (as indicated) and still nothing. The room has dim light and the cover is closed. I have tried to rule out everything but I cannot get it to work, however I think it should since it reads the crosses as mentioned above. The only thing I was not able to try was a file Mel put up on another thread to test with; the link no longer seems to be valid. Anyone have that? What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated. The first thing to check is your pdf settings. Make sure Auto Rotate and Center is checked on Make sure it is set to Page Scaling to NONE Most of the time when the craft cutter can not find the registration marks is because the page has been scaled. Let us know if that helps. |

If you want to check whether scaling is the issue I believe you can use the Craft Robo software to print out the GSD file. This should (I believe) print out a bunch of lines of different colors. Then you can try to cut the resulting print out on your Craft ROBO - if that doesn't register it's probably either a printer setting that's scaling everything coming out (if you have a ruler handy you can check this) or your Silhouette is having issues. |

I use the Ebbles homemade carrier sheets. This requires me to place the sheet to be cut about 1/8" from the top edge and to manually scan for reg marks. I had a lot of trouble with the machine as well until I figured that out. Manual isn't all that much slower. It's still much faster than cutting by hand. Now my cutter works pretty much flawlessly until the stickyness of the carrier sheet degrades, then I get some mis-alignments. Good luck with your project. |

Anvil, Thanks for the insight! I am also using homemade carrier sheets. I have gotten to the same point you are at: I rotate several carriers, use the manual align, and everything is now going smoothly. Of course, I would like the auto-search to work properly, but you are correct; the process is not slowed that much by the extra button push. Thanks everyone! Glad I am in business. Of course, if anyone has any tips on getting the auto-search working, that would be great. |
